questions re:using 360 controller on PC

Finally got Fallout 3, and was pretty amped to play it, but I'm having issues using my 360 controller(I'm terrible with a mouse/kb).

I can't put my weapons away AT ALL, making it impossible to search. I hold down X and nothing happens. I tap X and nothing happens. If I switch to the kb and hit R I put away my weapon immediately.

Also, is it possible to run using the controller? I don't see why I can't, my buddy can on his 360 console, am I not able to on PC? Am I just mentally disabled?

Thank you, and please forgive my ignorance.

Edit:Oh yea, Windows 7 64

Holding X for a second holsters your weapon and you run by pushing and holding the left stick all the way forward. Maybe your X button is dirty and it's not connecting properly. Try blowing some compressed air around it and see if that fixes it.

I grabbed another controller and it worked like a charm. Crappy 3rd party controller is crappy. The game immediately froze after about 10 minutes. yay.

Thanks for your prompt reply, and again, apologies for my ignorance.
