I've run into numerous occasions where I have been unable to continue quests, for example, I was working on buy a house in Markarth, and no matter how often I talked to the steward, jarl, etc, it would not give me the option to buy the house. Also I recently got the legendary edition, and am working on the vampire quest, and the npc that can read the elder scroll is seen as hostile so it won't let me talk to him to continue the quest.

And your sure you have met all the conditions for the quests?

Do you have the Unofficial Patches? IF not, get those.

Otherwise, load a save from before you got the quests that glitched and start them over. Note, the UOP will not fix all your glitched quests, so you may have to load that earlier save anyway.

where do I find Unofficial Patches?

Either revert back to an old save and for things like the moth priest (if that's who you're talking about), either sheath your weapon as he runs at you, if that doesnt help, pay the bounty for the faction he was with, if you attacked him, it would of said something like 40 bounty to the Rift. Just go to every city until you pay if off.

Happened to be before, when the moth Priest attacked me, it bugged out and i accidently attacked him AFTER he tries to kill you part and i couldn't carry on till i paid off my bounty.

About the Markarth house? You need to do 2 Quests for the Jarl of Markarth, one to kill a bandit leader somewhere, then you need to help 3 - 5 people in the city (Do miniquests or something) and you'll become thane and a purchasable house from his Steward.

There is a current glitch over all platforms involving Vlindrel Hall, causing the steward Raerek, to either not speak to you, or refuse to sell you a home in Markarth.

1. After completing The Forsworn Conspiracy and No One Escapes Cidhna Mine, you may not be able to buy this house because there will be no dialogue option to do something for the Jarl of Markarth.

• If you completed these two quests before you were level 20, there is still a way to buy the house. During the quest Season Unending, General Tullius and Ulfric Stormcloak will negotiate an exchange of territories, which will include the Reach unless you are a Stormcloak. If the Reach is handed over to or conquered by the Stormcloaks during Liberation of Skyrim, Thongvar Silver-Blood will become the Jarl of Markarth. He will then give you the opportunity to become thane, and the subsequent option to purchase Vlindrel Hall. If you have joined the Legion and completed Reunification of Skyrim then this workaround is unavailable.

2. Do not speak to Steward Raerek unless you have at least 8,000 gold. Speaking to him and not buying the home immediately has caused many players to lose the option to buy Vlindrel Hall forever.

• This can be fixed by entering setstage Favor250 10 in the console. The dialogue to become thane will reappear if you talk to Jarl Igmund, and once you are thane, the option to buy the house from Raerek will appear.
• If the above solution doesn't work, you can enter setstage Favor250 15, which will advance the quest to the "help x citizens" stage. Speak with the jarl to become thane and afterwards speak with Raerek. The option to buy the house from Raerek will appear
• This can also be fixed by doing another quest to help a citizen of Markarth if one is available. [verification needed]
