Quick BAIN question...

Post » Tue Jan 26, 2016 3:40 pm

Hey guys, I'm having a hard time finding a clear answer to this. I have a fairly extensive list of mods I want to intsall. I also want to download some world spaces like Elsweyr-Valenwood (to replace my current elsweyr setup) later this week. I'm hesitant to just go ahead and install my mods and play my game for now. I have everything ordered by categories and such, and from what I understand BAIN has the ability to "underwrite" other mods. How do I get this to work? Does it do it automagically? Like, if I install all my texture replacers and then want to go back and install some mod I found that conflicts with a ton of those textures, will Wrye Bash automagically underwrite them because of the install order, or do I have to set this up somehow?

I know the anneal function re-installs any missing files, but from what I understand Wrye Bash can overwrite files in packages higher up on my Installers list without overwriting "newer" packages lower on that list. I've tried reading the documentation but can't find a clear answer, but Google searches keep telling me that this is what happens. I don't want to completely screw up my entire installation by trying new mods unless I know for sure.

If you have mod A and mod B, both texture packs for example, and you first install mod A and then mod B, mod A will get overwritten. But if you DRAG mod B on top of the mod A (we're talking about installers), mod A will get underwritten (underridden...). Mod B will be highlighted in yellow, telling you that you need to Anneal it.

This way you can experiment with different texture packs.

Quoting WB Readme: Anneal Installs missing files and corrects install order errors.

Have you had a good look at the http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/35230/? ?

For this all to work you need to be using Wrye Bash to install all of your mods via BAIN

And not all mods zips are BAIN ready / friendly

But once you have everything being managed exclusively by Wrye Bash, then granular control over files and choices is excellent.

And if a BAIN has multiple choices in different sub-packages for individual selection, the more control you have over all the files ( making your own is always best )

Then its just a case of Install Order, files which conflict ( same name and installation path to a texture for example ) becomes a case of last installed wins, so adjust ( drag and drop ) an installers position in the Install Order to suit :)

Edit : Here's the relevant screenshot from the Pictorial Guide http://staticdelivery.nexusmods.com/mods/101/images/35230-1-1343151289.png

I don't think I'm wording this right, but I suspect what I'm asking isn't a feature regardless. Thanks anyway, guys, I just uninstalled everything and put the new mods I want to try out in the appropriate places in my load order and reinstalled everything again.

Anything installed lower in the Install Order list (say Mod A is #37 in BAIN install order list) will be underwritten from conflicting items from another mod lower in the install order list (say Mod B is #54). If both mods have a texture with the same file name and location, Mod B will overwrite Mod A.

If you want Mod A to "win", place it later in the Install order list than Mod B (by dragging Mod A lower in the list), and then right-clicking Mod A and selecting the "Anneal" option.

Okay, thanks, that's what I was asking was if I could put a new mod in its proper place in the install list and have it underride higher mods and overwrite lower. Thanks for the help!
