Quick Question about ESO Underwater Swimming

Post » Thu Dec 05, 2013 2:33 pm

Okay, first off if because of beta rules you can't answer then please don't because I don't wanna get people in trouble, but otherwise go right ahread.

Basically, I sorta wanted make a Argonain character that could go underwater in somewhere like Black Marsh or Cyrodil, stay underwater till some poor traveler/foe/PVPer comes along, and then jump into the air from the water FF Dragoon style and lunge at them like some primordial crocodile that can fly, giving said poor PVPer a scare also. Is this possible, and if so and it does not break the rules, how? I see the possible beginnings of such a plan in one of the DragonKnight Ultimates, but it would need to work underwater and be morphable to increase the height or something.

Oh. Well honestly that's one of the most disappointing things I've heard about this game so far. The ONE time I decide to make an Argonian character too. Plus I had planned to use that backdoor in one of the Cyrodil towns to infiltrate it in PVP.

Above: The intention was to scare them silly. I have no interest in Argonain/other race six.

No underwater disappointed me quite a bit as well.

Don't forget that MMOs have updates though. It could always be added down the line.

Agreed.

I feel as though I must make a topic on this underwater matter though.

No need to. I changed the title of the thread to reflect the discussion of underwater aspects of the game, or lack there of.

Water breathing spells, enchantments, and potions exist in past TES games and do not include bubbles.

I would like for you to have to have an enchanted helmet, spell, potion, or be an Argonian to breathe under water.

this. Underwater combat tend to be REALLY bad in MMO's. Lets get the devs to worry about stuff that is actually fun instead of frustrating.

Mind if I ask you to put in the poll I posted on the last one? I want to know what people think, not that I think it likely to make a difference. People seem to think it impossible to make anything underwater good based on the fact it has not been in stuff so far.

Make a new poll here?

Am I the only one that liked Vash'jr?

Nah, you aren't the only one. I really enjoyed Vash'jir a lot. I preferred leveling up there compared to Hyjal. But, I still believe that many games fail to do underwater combat correctly, and I feel that it's a huge undertaking trying to make it relevant enough that people are willing to actually go do it. So, I could swim and explore underwater in Skyrim, but I would estimate that the 1000 hours I put into that game I spent less than 3% of my time in the water.

Now, that doesn't mean that I wouldn't have faith in ZOS being able to create good content for underwater content, I just feel like I'd rather put more work in other features before underwater content. Maybe it can be something they can add in an expansion or something.

Hopefully we Argonians can at least hide under (shallow) water waiting for an unsuspecting prey to come near. And even better make that with spears please.

Vash'jir was very pretty, but it gave me a headache - And I mean that literally. I could not spend more than 10 minutes there before I got dizzy and had to stop playing. I also disliked the free permanent water breathing, since there were already many options already in game (potions, warlock friend, hydrocane staff).

I think underwater combat worked well in Morrowind (touch spells functioned normally, but ranged was a bust) as a single player game, but I don't think it translates well to PvP.

I don't care much for underwater combat, but I wouldn't mind the ability to actually swim underwater. Well that's semi submersed dungeons pretty much out of the window. Maybe it's something they could look into in the future however.

Maybe only allow swimming in PvE zones or even just dungeons? The intent being to explore and find secret locations/loot, not to engage in combat.
