Quick question, Windows 7 problem

Post » Mon Jul 01, 2013 1:46 pm

Greetings all, my frustrations with newer operating systems is finally getting to me. :wallbash: Here's my problem in a nutshell, after I first set up my laptop (pre-installed with Windows 7) with all of my modding stuff, I set .nif files to open with NifSkope, which worked for a few days. Afterwards I had to select the programme that I wanted to use to open them with every time, and somehow selected 7Zip, which does nothing in this case. Now, I tried to set NifSkope with admin privileges, but it hasn't helped. NifSkope doesn't even show up as an option to open the .nif file after I select it to open them.

I've actually had this problem for almost half a year now, but kept trying to fix it on my own. Any suggestions?

If I'm reading your problem correctly....
Installing all programs (including Morrowind itself) out of Program Files should fix these problems.
Installing directly to C: is the common practice.

You can also disable your User Account Control (UAC) if you feel comfortable enough with your OS.

Quick question round 2!

I can't use a quotation mark (") in the ingame console, it just comes up as a colon. I'm honest to god not sure what keyboard I have, Australian I suppose. Does anyone know how to access the quotation key? I've pressed every single other key possible, and tried to remap the key in MGE XE, but it doesn't care for anything the requires the shift key.

Thanks.

Hmm, tried that, and unless I have to restart for 'changes to take affect', I still seem to have the same problem. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Caultus/problems1_zpsb9e14e4e.jpg~original so far, no matter what I do, NifSkope doesn't show up as an option to open .nif files with. :(

Apart from Pluto's suggestion about installing outside Program Files, you might get some joy from Default Programs Editor - http://defaultprogramseditor.com/ - which lets you do things regarding file associations which were easy in XP but a total pain in Windows 7. Not just for this problem of course, just a really useful utility for file associations and context menus.

Wow! Thank you. :foodndrink: That did the trick, and was easy to use as well.

Now let's see if someone can help wolli out, too.

It is a common problem caused by the User Account Control System introduced in windows vista and later versions of windows. It is happening because various programs you have installed on your computer are associated with accounts other than the one you have logged on with. Logging on as administrator and/or right clicking on launch icons and selecting 'run as administrator ' might resolve some issues. Unless you can come up with a sensible reason as to why you need or even want the UAC especially if you are the sole user of your pc and you would like to awaken from this nightmare then i totally and utterly recommend that you http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-user-account-control-uac-the-easy-way-on-windows-vista/.
