quick streamline question

Post » Sun May 22, 2011 11:43 am

i don't like the autosave every X amount of minutes feature (every time it happens i think my game is about to crash, lol), but i want to use streamline's saves as my quicksave, and travel autosave since i hear they are somehow better then Bethesda' s auto and quicksaves.

So my question is: can i turn off the periodic saves by setting their interval to zero in the ini file, or will that cause streamline to do something weird?

Yes, you can! See the ini file, where I presume setting it to 0 will disable that feature. It should be described above the setting, so read the ini file.

I'm not sure, but you'd probably be better off going in the opposite direction. Just give it a really, really long save interval. Something like 1000 minutes or more. And it's not true that Streamline's saves are any better than Bethesda's, they both use the same system. The main reason why Streamline is considered better is that it will cycle through a number of different save slots rather using just a single one. So if the save does get corrupted you will always have an earlier save to back to.

Disagree.

If you observe carefully the main question and give it a second thought on what he really asked, and why would you tell him just to delay the inevitable... hah im just kidding =D.

ok, ill go the long route. sure i can stand my heart skipping a beat every 2000 or 3000 minutes =) I was worried setting the interval to zero would cause streamline to try and save every zero minutes, aka constantly. i know i can disable the whole streamsave feature, but i like the cycled saves for quicksaves, and on-travel saves.

as for the saves, i thought they were more stable, or less likely to bloat, in and of themselves, not b/c streamline cycles through various saves (which is still a great idea).

ty for the help yall!

Since I don't know what would happen if it was set to 0, (and no, that's not mentioned in the ini file) going in the opposite direction would seem to be the safest path. There's no reason why you couldn't set the interval high enough that there wouldn't be an inevitable save at some point. Though again, I'm not sure if the script could handle a value like 9999999 minutes or more.

Setting the save time to zero won't break anything.

Nope, nothing special about them, just uses different slots (which in itself can help prevent corruption).

No, they're exactly the same as the Bethesda saves. It's just the cycling that makes them less prone to problems. If you keep overwriting the same file over and over again, like the Auto Save does, there's a risk that it can become corrupted at some point. But I've had Streamsaves get corrupted just like the regular ones. The only difference is that I have a 10 minute interval set so I won't lose alot of playing time if it happens. People who rely only on Auto Save might lose hours, or their entire game. Frankly I think the whole save issue has been overblown. I've been using Auto Save since I got the game years ago, and I seldom have problems with it. Streamline is mainly a backup for me, just in case something does screw up. Which happens rarely.

seems if the save interval is set to zero, the mod automatically sets it to one, lame :(

...guess the only solution is to set the interval to a really high number or disable streamsave all together

I could have sworn I had it off completely, but now looking at the ini, maybe I had the save reminders option turned on instead. With that option it doesn't use the timer to autosave, instead it will display a message reminding you to save. So maybe it would be a good idea to turn that on if you want to avoid the save interruptions during gameplay. You could still set the timer high if you want to avoid the message as much as possible, too.

You should really reat the Documentation that comes with it..

"An automatic savegame system that can completely replace Oblivion's autosaves and quicksaves. It is highly customizable and will not interfere with standard savegame operation.

There are many options that allow the player to tailor Streamsave specifically to their needs:

- Configurable number of save slots (up to 40)
- Configurable save timer (from 1 minute up to 360 minutes)
- Protection against saving while in dangerous situations: low player health, in combat, in lava, while yielding, while trespassing, while swimming, etc
- Optional saving in special situations: while inside only, while idle only, after a zone (travel, door, etc), after waiting or sleeping, while sneaking, while character has a weapon out, etc
- Optional audible feedback when a save is performed
- Optional "Save Reminders" instead of actual saves
- A "Lite" version of Save Reminders that only puts a message in the top left of the screen for two seconds"

Is there a way to stop Streamsave from using the F10 key?
I supposedly disabled it:

;-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
set SLv.SaveModKey to 0 ;
set SLv.SaveKey to 0 ; (F10=121) (F5=116)
;-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

but it still does a Streamsave when I press F10. I want to use F10 for some other mod.

Did you reset Streamline in game after you changed the hotkey? Open up the menu, go to Special Actions and you'll see the option there. I believe the default key combo to access the menu is CTRL-Home. Nothing you change in the ini will take effect if you've already started a game unless you do that.

Like I said, it's in the Special Actions section. Just click on that and you'll see it in the new menu that comes up. I forget what the name of the option is right now but it's pretty self-explanatory once you find it.
