Quickest way to Kill Heavies in Campaign?

Post » Wed May 27, 2009 1:52 pm

I've yet to find an efficient way to kill the heavies in the campaign. The fastest so far is 2 C4 planted directly on him; but C4 is scares (?) so I can't resort to that all the time. Particularly in the last two chapters; they're everywhere. o_0

Thoughts?

What's the most creative way you've killed them?

On Post-Human mode 2 sniper shots directly to the head will put one down.

Alternatively mounted machine guns will tear them up, dont forget to stick your armor on though.

Yeah. the MG is great. Too bad you can't resupply it. ;) Thx for the HS tip. I'll give it a try!

lmao I just shoot it with any weapon I have. (unless of course I have a JAW or C4 or DSG)
DSG in Soldier mode kills him in like 10+ shots for me. I shoot him in the face all the time. Haven't tried post-human because I didnt get to that part yet.

The easiest way is to shot him in the head (directly between eyes) with dsg. I haven't yet try with gauss, but I know it's gonna hurt.

awesome ideas guys! thanks!
got in close with a Scar and melees last night.! whew! armor mode all the way.

Incidentally, from another thread. Scars are indeed silenced in Single player. The Scar stealth mod gives it to you. Also, mag extensions can be found in "Seat of Power" and "Semper Fi or Die".

in Posthuman the heavies move too much to be effectively killed by headshots. but jellyshots do.

the Gauss works nicely. just don't tank too much because you'll run out of ammo prematurely. the Mike works fine. but DSG'ing in the jelly works just fine too.

the HMG is the most owning weapon in SP though, since it has unpredecented ROF vs Damage Vs range Vs accuracy VS abundance. it kills anything from Ceph mooks to Pingers

Post-Human? Is that a difficultly setting? Sigh, I thought I was done with the campaign when I beat it on Supersoldier. But apparently there's a hidden difficulty setting. How do you unlock it? And is that what the hidden Trophy (PS3) is?
But more on-topic, when playing Soldersoldier I used headshots with the DSG, gunned them down with the HMG, or used JAW missiles. I tried assassinating one... didn't work.
Oh, and remember: You don't always have to engage the Heavies, you sneak past them.

Post human wasn't available? I play on the PC and I think it was there. If not then I imagine it becomes available after you get through the game once?

What hidden trophy? (souvenir collectible?)

Yeah, on walk through the park I bypass a couple of them, that and when I'm getting off the island. ...ever notice how the aliens never miss?.. of very very seldomly.

If the heavy is alone you can just melee him to death while making sure you stay behind him. And if you manage to mess up, even on the hardest difficulty his melee won't kill you in one hit so you have plenty of time to jump over him and go back to hitting his back. When you kill him up close he'll do some blast damage though but it shouldn't kill you.

I find the quickest wat is turning on Armor Mode throwing 3 grenades at his feet then shooting at the now exposed chest area.

Post Human is the PC's 4th difficulty setting. what you refer to as supersoldier is probably the same.

tip: Heavies are slow. kill all other Ceph before striking these, since it's THOSE Ceph that get you killed when striking a Heavy. when you have no other choice, distance, armor mode and a sniper rifle (DSG/Gauss) are your friends.

Swarmers are pretty nice against them too, but you only get to use them against heavies in one level.

summary of weapons:

-Grendel is IMO the most effective assault rifle against them
-Marshall is the most effective shotgun
-Gauss is the most effective sniper rifle
-Mike is the most effective Heavy Weapon
-HMG is the most effective mounted/carried weapon
-K-volts work pretty nice against them, but it requires quite a few shots and a Heavy as the only enemy. not sure if it's better than the Feline.

anyway, Cloak enhance (or whatever the exact name) + Marshall + silencer + cloak is the easiest way to mow through the Ceph. you can shoot once, then you have 2 blocks of energy left. do a close-up Marshall headshot to quickly dispose of the Ceph. then use something against the Heavy as previously described.

the very second i get them, my standard outfit is DSG (silencer/Sniper Scope) /Marshall (reflex + silencer).

Cloak Detector, Deflection, Stealth enhance and Mobility Enhance as suit powers.

JAWS imho are a waste against Heavies (not that i use JAWs at all), C4 might be effective but sneaking up on the Heavy and getting away from it is quiet difficult on Post Human.

in general, distance is your friend. use the DSG to clear away the annoying runners, soldiers and commanders, snipe as many as you can. when you can't hit the others, snipe the Heavy, move in with the Marshall and end the lives of the remaining Ceph.

once you get a hold of them, Gauss/Mike is your new best buddy since Mike fries all, equally fast, and Gauss is your friend against heavies and any other annoying enemy.

Stealth kills work fine against anything but heavies. melee works fine too. Mike and Gauss ammo is precious so you'll have to resort to violence. when escaping the Prism, you can just lure Ceph around the corner and bludgeon them to death. the next Ceph comes to investigate, you cloak, run to them and kick their ass. walk away, recharge, and repeat.

I had lots of C4, I stealth behind it, played all four and got the hell outta dodge.
Boom: one dead heavy.

The L-Tag is a pain for me to use against them, as, if you don't get a direct hit on it, it rolls past them. The HMG really is the best, just turn on Armor Mode, and aim for the puny head. The MIKE is effective against normal infantry, but against heavies it takes a bit. 2 C4s get the job done, or 3 JAWs. The difficulty with C4s is that when you throw one, you lose your cloak for some reason, so I recommend uncloaking as you won't drain all of your nanosuit energy.
