It's not accurate to say that nixxing the attributes reduces the amount of customization, you have to consider the customization added by the perks.

8 attributes vs 280+ perks

I'd rather have the perks, sounds like there's more potential room for customization

I totally realize and accept that most of the people moaning over the loss of these stats are old-school gamers who have been playing games with INT and STR all their life. Personally I'm excited to see BGS try something bold and new... you are what you play. Brilliant

"Less is more" DOES sum things up quite nicely, I think, which is why I said it. It blankets the complaints that removing things makes the game worse or dumbed down or over-simplified.

Note: I am being a bit sarcastic here. I do expect the game to be very good. I just am not sure anymore that this will be as great a game as it has/had potential to be.

You said less above when more is definitely needed.

As an example. A stupid mage will fight a conjurers beast they pull up. A smart mage will defend themselves from that beast but focus their attack on the conjurer in some manner. Like attack their Intelligence, hence ability to control the beast. Yes, you can come back and say...Hey! the mage can attack Conjuration! Maybe, but that, since spell making has been cut, would require one of these godaweful two-hands! little pinky winkle approaches that it sounds like is being implemented and another spell to attack their ability to Dispell since the whole point of attacking attributes is to attack multiple abilities at once......

Oh wayt....Mysticism was cut out too so who knows about dispell....so this whole conversation may be moot as the game for mages has potentially been dumbed down beyond reason.

But we will have sweet dragon tweets to make up for the loss. :intergalactic:

Mysticism magic wasn't cut, the spells still exist only they were spread into other fields of magic.

I'd be shocked if dispell wasn't in the game.

1. While perks are neat there is nothing bold and new about them. There is nothing new about using a fixed, uncustomizable, and uncontrollable approach to unlocking new abilites.

2. Perks and Attributes are not the same. Attributes and Health/Stamina/Magicka are not the same.

So would I. But mentioning it fit so well with what I was saying. Could not pass it up.

Or soul trap.

I ain't bothered that attributes are gone to be honest, some were useless. I'm sure bethesda has come up with a better way. I agree with the OP,no need to worry.
Plus it stops you using something you don't like just so you can get a + 5 bonus. Attributes only really mattered more in morrowind in my opinion, because of how the game and combat worked. That's changed now.I'm a believer that this new system will be better overall, but that's my opinion.

^Indeed. Confirmation of soul gems means that soul trap returns, which should put an end to the "THEY CUT MYSTICISM!!" theory.

I'm really surprised that so many people are outraged about the lack of attributes especially since we had this exact outbreak of hysteria after the GI mag basically said there were no attributes. I guess a second outbreak was needed.

Don't worry. There will be a third outbreak when we all get the game and people realize that all the original attributes really aren't in the game.

From what I understand it has been confirmed that Mysticism was cut. Which is not really an issue since the spells can easily be transferred into a new skill set.

I'm really surprised so many people are in favor of this.
Also, back then, the main argument was that "we don't know if attributes are really gone / they could still be there!". We have new information now and it's worth discussing.
