I quit.

You quit? Let me guess, someone stole your sweet roll.

This isn't WoW. You don't "quit." You just... don't play it anymore.

And you're complaining? Pff.. I wish I had some challenge now and then. Game's far too easy and all I can do is make everyone damage absorbing tanks (not real difficulty, imo).

I'm sorry, but you must be really bad. The only time I've ever had trouble playing is when I'm a mage using destruction. For obvious reasons.

Wow, just go back later when you have better equipment and a higher level.

Seriously, quitting because you found an opponent that is tough? Turn down the difficulty to Novice.

TBH you can't quit, it is not a contest and you are not paying a subscription.

Also remember two things :

- resists are bugged atm so casters/dragons are much more powerfull, specially at low levels, so just wait for the fix (Bethesda said this week)
- "Best techniques are passed on by the survivors" Gaiden Shinji, founder of the Arena, 1E947 .... so just run for your life, cemeteries are already full of fools, courageous and honorables warriors.

I know resists are broken right now, but it seems like the shield perk for halving spell damage still works for me.

But the true life-saver for my sword-n-board fighter right now is Spellbreaker.

Even with no resists playing on Master, I can take a dragon's breath straight to the face and live to tell about it...as long as I get my shield up in time and have some potions handy for the aftermath...

Funny, in a sad way. I'm a pure caster destruction mage and have no problem on Master.

I feel for Beth a nd Todd Howard's team. People complain about universal leveling in Oblivion, so Beth fixes it so the world is much more dynamic. But people complain about that, too. Beth can't win, I guess.

I used my unrelenting force shout, twice. But the damge output of this guy was beyond stupid.

I had it on adept, and he would just machinegun some sort of bolt then lightning back and forth. I used up all my mana, all my potions.

I did try to run but then just got hit in the back with a lightning bolt.

This is not a PLAYER problem, its a game problem. The AI's spell scale FAR to well.

Some NPC's will be above your level. I got owned around level 18 a few times, then I cam back to the same NPC a 5-6 levels later and ripped her a new one and felt really satisfied about it. As a sword and board character, I make sure I have an amulet of elemental resistance and at least one armour piece of elemental resistance along with the shield 50% magic resist perk. Now at level 37, I still find some mages tough, but now I found the equalizer when I Ice Freeze the punks.

Stuff.

I read the whole thread just to check if you ever mentioned it, but I'm curious if you've actually tested whether your resistances are in fact working properly or not, instead of just "eyeballing it".

So get to it. Summon a flame atronach (or whatever element you prefer) and cast the same element on it. If it dies relatively quickly, your resistance is broken. My understanding was patch 1.2 = breaks resistances for everyone. You're the first person in all the internets to claim it's working properly.

Just wondering.

Hey, that happened to me too, and it seem to happen very randomly. Most of the time my pure warrior shrugs magic like ants or something, then some guy throws 2 ice spikes at him and there goes 300 health

It doesn't even happen consistently. One time it would be lighting strikes, another time ice spikes. And we're talking adept here.

That ice spike thing hurts...no argument. My warrior got slaughtered in a couple of shots too. Had to reload and change tactics but I got him...

NPC mages do scale absurdly well. I don't personally have a problem, I can kill them with arrows just fine. The thing that bothers me tho is that well, they do more damage than me. Destruction wise.I''ve been 1shot before by mages. 1 shot. On adept at that, as a dunmer with natural fire resist and agent of mara (+15% magic resist) by a dual casted fire spell. How the hell? Since when did destruction get that strong and why don't I have that version of what spell I was hit with, because mines ain't like that. It seems like npc mages spells scale with their level, while the players do not.

The real question is why an unarmored mage can take more melee damage than an armored warrior?

Im level 12, a somewhat pure sword and board warrior.

I leave whiterun after turning saddia in and go around the city and find some smugglers, no big deal, tough fight but win.

Then three more come in, one of which is a caster. In two spells I die. TWO SPELLS.

I know I dont have any magic resistance or lightning resistance but COME ON. Two spells?!?

Even if I equipped my newly gotten fast healing it wouldnt do much, and this mage with his dagger BLOCKED my shield bash twice.

Good job breaking your own game bethesda, Ill go play something else till you figure out you needed the Creation Kit and modders sooner to FINISH YOUR GAME.

You can always turn down the difficulty.

Ain't no shame in that, playa.

So long as resistances are broken NPC spellcasters are going to be ridiculously overpowered. My level 30 sword and board warrior who can finally eat power shots from those 2-hander wielding bandit chiefs and marauders without flinching got 1-shotted by a bandit OUTLAW who hit him with 1 ice spike. So when I see a caster now I just get in close and shield-bash stun them to death and if I see more than 1 caster I run for my sad little life. Master difficulty isn't a good place to lose all of your resists; hopefully they fix this soon.

I've noticed this too. I've entered a cave or dungeon, found it over my head and ran away. Live to fight another day. I come back 5 levels later and my mage has a 1 on 1 mage vs mage fight in same cave and the enemy seems to still have triple hit points and triple the destruction power. End result? I ran away again. lol

I had to run plenty of times. Some people don't like this, they prefer the whole experience to be perfectly scaled, like a linear platforms game. Having this variation adds to the immersion of the game and keeps you on your toes. Why would you expect to be able to win every single encounter with anything anyway?

When I saw a giant for the first time I wanted to talk to him. Instead, he sent me to outer space with one hit. I quickly learned to stay away from them for a while instead of coming to the game forums complaining about it and announcing to the world that I'm quitting.

Not all bandits are of the same skill level. Thats not a problem with the game... It makes sense. I've died plenty of times and got to places i've had no choice but to run. And to me that just makes the game that much more exciting.
