I quit.

Couldn't be bothered to read the full thread, so if I repeat something, my apologies.

You can always use Wards spells from the Restoration school to protect yourself against spells and dragons breaths, unless your character is pure melee and refuses to use magic of any kind.
You're carrying a shield, use it. Shield Bash your opponent to interrupt his or her casting. Since you have Unrelenting Force, use it in conjunction with your bashes.
Personally I'm not pro-potions, but if you have some resist/regen ones in your inventory, use them.
Eat your own ego and hire a mercenary for the fight. You'll be surprised how easy things are with one around. The Drunken Huntsman in Whiterun has one for hire (500 gold pieces).
You can always use other enemies to block the caster's line of sight. So if you're fighting against a group, hide behind them and finish them off before going for the caster.
Use your character's racial ability. They can be life savers when used properly.
Leave the dungeon and come back a couple of levels later. That will make things easier as well.

If you're still having troubles with that, turn the difficulty down a bit, and try again.

I find it rather amazing you feel like rage quitting the game and blame the company because of your own incapacity. There are several ways to get rid of an enemy, you're just not thinking outside of the box. Pushing enemies into traps; using oil lamps to ambush them; use corridors to fight only one enemy; you name it.

I read the whole thread just to check if you ever mentioned it, but I'm curious if you've actually tested whether your resistances are in fact working properly or not, instead of just "eyeballing it".

So get to it. Summon a flame atronach (or whatever element you prefer) and cast the same element on it. If it dies relatively quickly, your resistance is broken. My understanding was patch 1.2 = breaks resistances for everyone. You're the first person in all the internets to claim it's working properly.

Just wondering.

I have just tested the magic resistance bug on the flame atronach and I can confirm at least for myself, the magic resistance is broken. It voids the point of the resistance perks in alteration that I am aiming to get for my pure mage. It also voids the potions I use to help ne resist effect magical effects. I hope Bethesda addresses this real soon. I hope we get an update on the new patch soon.

I've noticed this too. I've entered a cave or dungeon, found it over my head and ran away. Live to fight another day. I come back 5 levels later and my mage has a 1 on 1 mage vs mage fight in same cave and the enemy seems to still have triple hit points and triple the destruction power. End result? I ran away again. lol

Right. Mage NPC's are simply vastly more powerful than player mages.

I don't care about enemies having different levels, I'm all for mini bosses and what not. Those are great, die so I can loot you. BUT how does a mage in cloth armor have more defense than a player in heavy armor? I understand that yeah that particular mob is supposed to be "powerful", but it should still be within the confines of what the player themselves is allowed. I currently can not cast as strong as spells as mages in the game supposedly my level, nor would my defense be anywhere near theirs if I were in a robe.

Edit:
I'm also playing on 1.1 so my magic resist works and I can still be 1 shot by some mobs. I have NO CHOICE but to stealth kill them at a distance, I mean if I was pure melee guess I'm [censored]...

OP go play vanilla Oblivion were everyone scales with you. Problem solved.

Otherwise employ one of the many tactics mentioned in this thread to help you out. Don't wait for mods, if anything they will make the HARDER not easier. Unless you are going to download one of those anime swords with godlike nipble armor for your hentai female nord.
