Race Armor

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 11:16 am

Okay, so I seem to remember that, several months ago, Todd Howard said that all of the races would have their own unique armor somewhere in the game. Obviously, Orcs, Imperials, Nords (somewhat), and Altmer (somewhat) have it, with Orcish Armor, Imperial Armor, Nordic Steel Armor, and Elven Armor/Thalmor Robes, respectively. But what about the other races? Where are their armor? Was the idea taken out somewhere along the way? Or am I just totally off base?

EDIT: Nope, I'm not off base. This http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1207439-skyrim-information-iv/ confirms that race-specific armor was confirmed before release.

Lore states that armour forged in Black Marsh is typically made from the scales of larger lizards than the Argonians themselves, so the Dragonscale armour 'could' be considered their closest match.

Well, Glass is a dark elf armor. Ebony is too last I heard. There's Hammerfall robes for Redguard. I don't know if there's anything for Khajit, but some of the travelling traders seem to have unique stuff. I did not look closely.

Argonians got nothing.

There's definitely Nord armor. Even Nord weapons. The Druagr use and wear it. And it's available for the PC by particular means.

All of the basic armour in-game has a Nordic theme, even right down to some being labelled 'Nordic.'

[SLIGHT SPOILER]

Completing the Companions Questline also lets you buy and forge Ancient/Hero Nordic weapons and armour.

argonians get only the scales on our backs :shakehead: which is not such a bad armour, it feels great, and it lets us show off :hubbahubba:

Okay, so Redguards have unique clothing, and possibly Khajiit too, and Argonians get nothing (GRRR). But what about Bosmer, Dunmer, and Bretons? Do Bosmer get a suit of Valenwood Wooden Armor? Do Dunmer get a set of Bonemold Armor? Do Bretons get a set of Robes, or some nice plate armor? I'm guessing no. Why say that all races get unique armor when they don't, Beth? WHY?!?!?!

The Dunmer and Bosmer have Elven armor. They are elves, are they not? Besides, the Bosmer would think wooden armor is sacrilege. You don't read the books in-game? ;)

Yes, but they need unique armor! The elves of Tamriel are all distinct from one another, and they should have armor that reflects that. The Elven armor of Skyrim is designed in an Altmeri style (elegant-looking); Bosmer should have armor that reflects their culture, as should Dunmer.

I agree i also noticed this and have been trying to find armors for every race, i'm an imperial and love having imperial armor, also the fact that you can craft it is the best, i have one specific suit that i made from scratch and then upgraded!

You can't just dump all the Mer into one race. Because Orcs are considered Mer as well As Altmer so they aren't just going to give the finger to Dunmer and Bosmer. All Mer are unique,

If they have Khajiit armor, I'd sure like to know where you can find some.

"Confirmed" could mean that a majority of forumers agreed that something would be in-game. Unless it came from Todd Howard, I didn't believe anything to be "confirmed". Even then, I wasn't expecting to see it in the final cut. :P

To all the above: Yeah, I know. I actually think it would be cool to have lots more types of armor. Multiple types for each culture, with varying quality. I like how there's a steel helmet and a steel horned helmet, each with the same stats but different appearance. I'm just quibbling a bit because I find these claims of promises broken a bit humorous.

Guys, even if the lead developer himself says "We're going to do X with the new game", that isn't a damn oath sworn on his sainted mother's grave. It's a statement of intention, not a promise. They changed their mind, they didn't break any "promise" to do anything.
