Race Mixing

Post » Tue Jun 21, 2011 3:15 am

I think that it would be interesting if you could mix the races in Skyrim. For example, during character creation, being able to make a half-Imperial half-Bosmer.

I know some products of this would look pretty strange, like a Khajiit-Orc, but I think it would just be an interesting addition.

Thoughts?

TES Lore : mixed race children have all the appearance and traits of the mother's race.

I would be a cool option but my Nord is 100% Nord. Apart from his legs, they must be Khajiit, very hairy unlike fathers?

Edit: Zen 1966, my lore is quite poor although I am working on it. Although to me, to say "mixed race children have all the appearance and traits of the mother's race" seems like a cop out from the devs to create a more deep creation mode for mixed races. I think if a Imperial woman and a Khajiit male had a love child it would be silly for it to have no Khajiit features in any way at all.

I forget the exact book, but the lore already explains what happens when two races create offspring. The child essentially takes after the mother, looking exactly like her race with a few minimal attributes from the father. So for example, a female Khajiit and a male Orc would always produce more Khajiit - and so on.

Edit: Ninja'd.

In theory I wouldn't mind. In reality, a waste of development time that could be better spent elsewhere.

In theory, it's pointless since the offspring takes 99% of the mother's traits. Leave it out.

wasnt that orc in the arena half human with light colored skin? or was that just from having a vampire father?

but yeah, I'd prefer other things, mixed races are basically new races as far as game mechanics are concerned and we already have 10 good ones.

TES Lore : mixed race children have all the appearance and traits of the mother's race.

This.

The only race that could technically count as 'mixed' would be breton.

Well that's freaking lame. Somebody needs to rewrite the lore on this one.

If this is in, then my Dunmer Nord super race will be possible after all.

I don't think Mer/Men breeding with beast races is even possible.
I think the book in Morrowind that that Altmer woman had said that of all the races only Men and Mer could crossbreed, but wouldn't create hybrid children, aside from the Breton, but that was engineered over long periods.

Not for lack of trying, though, if the Lusty Argonian Maid is any indication.

And that was after generation after generation of Mer fathers.

@ Twitch, remember the earlier games were first person only, you only saw your character in a 2d picture, so it would have been a lot easier to have mixed races if they had wanted. Nothing to do with not wanting to make body models, or any of today's stuff.

Some races are so physiologically apart that it would be highly illogical if they could even produce a live offspring..

It's a great way to preclude request such as this. TES lore is filled with brilliant ways of dissuading foolish requests and allowing retcon whenever necessary.

Beastman to Beastman (Argonrian on Khajit) has no recorded offspring, Men (Nords, Imprerials and Redguards) on Mer (Altmer, Dunmer, Bosmer, Orchsirmer (orcs)) have produced offsrping albiet with the above mentioned occurrences. Beastman on Men/Mer also have no cases of offspring.

Argonians don't lay eggs:

Argonians are ovoviviparous. [Wow. I was SURE I'd never have to use that word again.] They don't lay eggs like reptiles. Note that Lady Argonians have big bumps on their chests.

If they're ovoviviparous, doesn't that mean they still lay eggs? The egg develops in the mother, and when the egg is ready to hatch, the egg is laid, and then hatches.

I swear to god... half of the threads on this forum are so pointless and stupid... it just annoys the hell out of me. Sorry, but I see so many idiotic threads like this on this forum everyday. Think about it before you post, it's obviously not going to happen, and the idea itself would be stupid and make NO sense, honestly. >_<
