Race Multipliers

Post » Sat May 21, 2011 7:47 pm

I would like to see a multiplier option for races. This is not completely new since movement speed is affected by your race's height in Oblivion. The following is and example of race multipliers indifferent

Attribute Multiplier
Nord
Strength----1.05
Endurance---1.1
Agility------.95
Personality--1.0
Willpower---1.0
Intelligence---.9
Speed------1.0
Luck-------1.0

Given the same experiences/training a Nord is going to be stronger than a Bosmer. Just like given the same casting and etc a Altmer is going to be more intelligent than an orc. The multipliers would be very small so you can still have enjoy an orc mage. Currently at high levels the races become homogeneous making them feel little more than a change in art.

Another option is make race traits grow with level. For example the Khajiit scare humanoid at lv 40 should be much stronger than a lv one's. An Orc's Berserk would fortify/drain less at lower levels and later at higher levels the fortify would increase.

If you have other ideas to distinguish races even more, please do share.

That is a really great idea! However these stats should be kept in the background like hidden effects. So a Bosmer with 100 strength will be weaker and won't carry as much as a Nord with 100 strength but we can't see that in game.

I like the keep it in the background idea so every time you see your stats you aren't reminded its just in the background. I think the Dunmer's Trait "Ancestor Guardian" is a prime example of a race trait that early on is real nice but later goes by the wayside. How fun would it be if at earlier levels you summoned just one ghost, but as you grow in level and consequently renown more of the dead relatives show up to support their living legacy. By level 50 you get a whole family reunion of relatives long gone. Many of these class traits are once per day so make them cool.

This would actually be quite immersive I think. And it makes sense, to me at least. Hope you use this idea, Beth.

I really like this idea, in Oblivion I was always frustrated that Bretons were the only race that had a racial that scaled well with the way I played the game. I hope they're really careful with race balancing this time, and I haven't heard a better proposal than this.

Absolutely, especially for the race traits. In Oblvion, the bosmer's beast tongue spell became useless at high levels because ennemies were too strong to be affected

Yes, pleas,e please, please.

oblivion gave some attribute bonuses, but I hope that there are multipliers this time, that way a 100 strength nord would be stronger than a 100 strength wood elf, or a 100 intelligence Altmer would be more intelligent than a 100 intelligence orc. In all previous games, all races wind up the same when you start capping attributes.

Spells that scale as your level goes up also sounds good, would add more use to greater powers. Though the altmer and breton races should probably just have a fixed magicka boost.

I don't know about this one. That means, no matter how much I level my character's attributes, it is negated by a race with a higher multiplier. May as well segregate the towns based on their color. Players should be able be whoever they want in TES, and that means even an Altmer equal to a Nord in strength. This seems like less of an enhancement and more of a limitation.

I agree wholeheartedly. In that respect, race multipliers would actually limit players' choices more than in Oblivion and Morrowind where racial bonuses only affected starting attributes. A Nord may be inherently better at arm wrestling than a Bosmer, yes, but if he doesn't practice a particularly dedicated Bosmer player should have the potential to surpass the Nord's ability, though it may take longer - that's part of the fun and the spirit of TES.

From the options I've seen suggested so far, I still think I wouldn't want anything more comprehensive than starting bonuses for races in Skyrim.

Tamriel is heavy segregated even to the point in Cyrodiil, the centrally located capital you had cities like Bruma near the border with Skyrim heavily populated with Nords and Layawiin had much higher ratios of Kajiit and Arogonians. Even more segregation exist in each of the provinces, Morrowind and Summerset being the worst.
As far as this limiting choices I feel that without scaling racials and/or attribute multipliers you actually really have only 1 choice by level 30 with 8 different skins, 16 counting male/female. At least that is how I have felt the many times I've played through Morrowind and Oblivion. Contrast this to Never Winter Night where even when I was finishing the game the effects of my character choice could still be felt.

this is Elder scrolls not an MMOPG, also submit this under the muliplayer forum

jking I read it
I like them just having an advantage in the field, but have it more balanced
the starting spells did kinda lose there luster after a while so I would like those to level up with you

Great idea for a mod imo if you can find a way to make it work. But I don't think people (including me) will enjoy being limited because of the race they chose whether or not the stats fit what the lore says.

edit: I do like the idea of race powers growing in power with level though that makes sense, I would love for the ancestor guardian spell to summon a lich or a group of skeletons at a high level, that would be awesome.

How is it segregation. Is it segregation that Asian people have shorter femurs than Caucasians (though don't take my word for that, I may be remembering the wrong bone)?

I don'tthink it would be that limiting. These do, after all, seem pretty minor changes based on the OP. But it seems pretty hard to imagine that the strongest orc will be the exact same strength as the strongest Bosmer. It's just like in reality, where the strongest woman is not as strong as the strongest man. And you do get to choose your race, soif you want to be a strong character over a fast one, don't choose a Bosmer.

thats actually a lie all races have the same everything, that is what is called racist science, it happened around the time of imperialism, everyone thought they were superior and scientists tried to back it up

I think he means that the multiplier would be way to constricting so only certain people would be doing certain things, like a wood elf would never have a warhammer

People want to choose what race they are based on what one they like not what one is strongest if the race they like can't be as strong as another one no matter what yes that is limiting.

You have a logical fallacy in there. If the Nord is not training to increase strength the multiplier is being wasted and the Bosmer WILL be stronger in the end. It would be silly that a 6'6" 300 lb Nord would cap out at the same strength capacity as a 5'4" Bosmer.

Uh... huh. I guess it's a lie to that black people have darker skin than most other races and that Asians have flatter noses in general than white people. It's a conspiracy!

Racials should be leveled, but I don't really care about the ability multipliers. I wouldn't mind it, but I have no particular to desire to see it, either. Call me... indifferent >.>

You want them to take out racial abilities too, like water breathing for Argonians and greater powers?

I am all for this idea, but I see the guy you are replying to's point. I Think he means that a Nord wont always be stronger than a bosmer at birth simply due to gentics. IE; some would be born smarter/more agile etc. but this is kind of addressed by classes and what skills you use I suppose. (which if I'm not mistaken is your point) soooo, yeah I like this idea.

Morrowind had this somewhat.. There was a big difference between male and females. I used the six-change console command.. and all of a sudden my character was overburdened even though non of the stats that I saw changed. Change back to male.. and everything was fine.
