No. I'm in prison and I'll come up with my own reasons as to why that is. Let me decide everything about my character.

I agree with this, but I would also like quests specific to my race, not neccesarily my "origin", which is mine to decide, but I like the idea (and replayability factor) of some race specific quests. Maybe to learn more about your homelands and lore and such.

The point of starting in prison is that you can have whatever backstory you want.

My main character has a 100+ back story, the LAST thing I want is BGS stepping in and [censored] that up.

Origin stories work great in some games, but TES isn't one of them. I do like the idea of race-specific quests, as mentioned above, though.

I agree. I like the idea of some race specific quests (maybe tied into the radiant story, so that you don't end up with the same race specific quest each time?), but I'd like the origin to be as much of a clean slate as possible.

Except that at one point, for whatever reason, you ended up in prison.

Yeah, it's a blank slate, but in many ways too blank. I loved how Fallout 3 handled it, although that would be too specific for TES. It would be nice to at least define your background beyond the norm similar to the start-by-ship mod or many other games (including Daggerfall).

I think it would be great to have a race-specific quest-line but not as an origin, handled more like companion quests in Dragon Age or Mass Effect where they can be done more or less at any time and aren't revealed right up front.
