Race Perks

Post » Sun Jul 17, 2011 8:48 pm

Do you think that every 10 levels your character should get a powerful perk unique to his/her race? If so, what? Maybe different level frequencies?

Example: Level 30 Bosmer: Can get unique dialogue options with some animals.

So long as it's only a benefit, and not a penalty

I think at least having one at creation would be cool. Ancestor Spirit and whatnot.

One perk for every 10 levels to level 50. Thus, the cost for this benefit would be a total of 5 perks.

The application of 5 perks to racial characteristics would reduce the balance of the total 50 perks allowed, to 45 remaining perk options.

That might be an unintended consequence of the proposal one should consider.

That said, if that option was available, some might choose it.

No, I meant for these perks to be separate. They are there own beast, not in the constellations.

Yes, please. The races need something to distinguish them better.

I like the OP's idea and wouldn't mind if there was a cost/penalty for using the perk. It makes for more interesting gameplay, gives you a stronger attachment to your character and offers fun experimentation with the idea of actions and consequences.

My concern is the association of negative traits to races with real world anologues.

Well, we don't know how distinct and distinguished each race is going to be until we play the game ...

Khajiit should definitely get increased movement speed, or some sort of leap ability. Maybe they can leap towards an enemy, knocking them to the ground? That'd be epic.

I agree.
The same can be applied to attributes. Every 100 or 150 points of stamina your character gets a little faster maybe something like that.

Thanks for explaining your maining, BretonSorcerer. As you have gathered, I thought you meant taking points from our original perk base number.

I am voting "other." I saw something a little like this in FO3, but I want to reserve judgement on this idea until I know more about how significant race benefits really are. I do like the idea.

At the start, it seems that race and gender are our only choices, other than cosmetic, and for gender there are no special attributes, other than role-play are significant.

Race is the main choice we make at start, and all the races will have different starting stats.

The concept does sound interesting, and could be a fun way of giving race even more meaning.

Edit: Lol, sorry about the typos, haven't had my coffee yet...minor editing.

I don't think it would be a racial perk would it? if they it were a chosen perk because you have hit a Level through experience, would it make more sense if it were connected to age and not level? But how much time will pass in game as you play, i am not sure.

But some perks that is unique to a race would be interesting.

I like it, mainly because in oblivion the race specific "greater powers" became useless around level 20 or so simply because i had spells that were better or were good enough of a warrior to not need them anymore.

I'm given to understand that there is differences between races,

Racial Spells (Apparently a lot like Oblivions)
Racial Skill Modifiers (Dunmer's +10 or whatever to Destruction like previous entries)

The only thing that has really changed is no +strength ones. And without picking a Star Sign either they need to make Racial Abilities and Skill Modifiers fairly significant if they claim "Racial choice is more important than ever before"

Or, like mentioned earlier, less significant STARTING, but a racial Perk Tree would vastly differentiate races.
