Race Selection

Post » Thu Apr 28, 2011 9:49 am

Well from the gameplay trailer, I only see Nord present as the main character. I thought "it's only because it's the race local to the region, just to make climate for the game", however upon reading somethings, it has me worried that you might have to be Nord. I might not have looked hard enough, and it's probably under my nose, but someone please tell me whether or not there will be race selection. I would simply hate having to be Nord. Yes, I know Bethesda knows better than to make the game have no race selection, it's one of the defining features of TES, still though, I am worried.

They were just using a Nord to set the feel for the game, and I'm pretty sure we saw a few non-Nords in the game play trailer.

Thank you guys, had a feeling it was only for setting, but still, the Dragonborn coming from Vvardenfell just didn't seem like it would fit. :P

Well maybe a dunmer dragonborn seems weird but then an Argonian nerevarine was a bit weird in morrowind too

When you think about it, Argonians would make much better dragonborn than Nords

Long live the Argonian dragonborn! Weird? Yes. Doable? Yes. Totally awesome that you could play as a Kahjiit dragonborn? Yes.

Same as OB, ten races that you can chose from. They did get rid of some options, however. A lot of the sliders in the character creation have been removed, just because they make them look ugly. But all the races are still there.

The title of Dragon Born is given by the gods, it doesn't matter what race you are. Think of Martian, he was Dragon Born and he was imperial.

All 10 races are returning and will be playable. Nords are just the focus.

Dammit. I so did enjoy going around with a red, puffy face, bug-eyed, small-nosed, pucker-lipped, Wood Elf with max hand-to-hand, wreaking havok upon the Imperial City.

Yeah, this should not have been a valid fear for you. None of the main games have ever made you be a certain race.

You can still customize your characters face. Also, now you can customize your characters body.

You can only be a Nord in Skyrim, just like how you can only be an Imperial in Oblivion, and a Dunmer in Morrowind.

You're worrying waaaay too much. It wouldn't really be Elder Scrolls V if you didn't get to create your character, starting with your race, would it? And just so you know, this has been confirmed already multiple times in interviews and articles, so no worries!

I heard a small mention of body customization in the first gameinformer article, but nothing since. I'm beginning to think that that may have been a mistake or misconception by the author of the article. Has this been confirmed anywhere else since?

Also, there has been one game, 'Redguard', in which you had to play as a Redguard (to my understanding).

It was in the game informer article and I believe in one other place as well, I can't remember. But it was in the GI mag article. So as far as we know, we can choose body types for our characters but everything is up for change or removal from the game. But as far as we are concerned now, it's in.

I know, that's why I said "main". In Battlespire you were also forced to play as a specific type of character instead of choosing class and so on. Battlespire and Redguard were really just spin off games.

I kinda hope BGS reduced the ridiculous nature of the sliders this time around and actually focuses on key features of each race

You mean he was born in the Empire under the Imperial Sign (a Dragon), as opposed to being Dragon-born/Dovahkiin, hailing from a line of poeple with powers stemming from the Dragons themselves.

EDIT: Unless you were just joshing us, in which case, sorry for being so literal. Haha.

true, but are dremora going to have their own race again? what if they have their own body type (making armour incompatible) they probably don't have dragon shouts either
