Race of Tiber Septim

Post » Mon Feb 23, 2015 1:35 am

Hjalti at least seems to have been a kid from High Rock who made up a fictional history where he was a Nord, and as these things go, the story is indistinguishable from the fact. Plus with the whole enantiomorph thing his race can have multiple correct answers.

There used to be speculation that Zurin was even an elf of some kind originally.

All we know for certain is that he was of Nedic descent.

Atmorans are not Nedes. The idea of the Nedes coming from Atmora is Septim propaganda.

Not really. It's used to refer to human back before those categories were clear.

It has three different meanings in various sources. A pre-Ysgramor Atmoran (Frontier, Conquest). A blanket term for any indigenous group of men (Same). And then the likely original meaning, referring to just one Cyrodilic tribe (Adabal-a).

But reputable scholars have included Atmoran migrants among the Nedics. Just an etymology mix-up.

The propaganda is the idea that the first humans came to Tamriel from Atmora, and that Bretons and Cyrodils are chiefly of Nordic stock. This was disproven even before Morrowind came out.

Okay so I got question for the people who think Tiber was a Breton

Out of all the races to pick for his Avatar, why would Lorkhan choose the race of ManMer who are literally half elven bastards?

As one of the Gods who's opposed the Mer and their Gods throughout recorded history, and even before that, why would he pick Bretons?

I think Tiber Septim was a snowman.
Like Robin Hood or William Tell or Arthur of Camelot.

He is likely an amalgation of several rulers who lived at that time.
What makes it interesting from the many times we see this in earth history is mythopoesis.
In a very real sense it doesnt matter anymore. In a very real sense it is all of them who are Tiber.
Hjalti and Stormcrown and all the others.
In the end they became Talos and that overrid all that came before.
Its like a spindle where all the twine turns into a thread.

You can only make sense of it by undoing the rope.

So clearly, we should all just be happy with our rope, and get back to tying people up.

That's the Thalmor understanding, certainly. But that's exactly where they're wrong - the rope isn't for binding, it's a bridge, crossing a deep gorge, and you're being chased by death-cultists who want to rip out your heart.

So, shouldn't one be more eager to simply cut the rope off rather than taking time to untie it?

Jus sayin

Not the way it works. Lorkhan doesn't pick anything. Tiber Septim picked himself.

And if he was a Nord, it's more probably he went to mantle Shor, in some degree.

The war of Ehlnofey were led between Shor and Auri-El, not the "whole" Lorkhan and "whole" Aka that took part in the Creation.

Lorkhan just loves his Creating the Mundus, loves all that from the Creation, man or mer alike.

Just by tradition in Tamriel men have a more probable tendency to love the Mundus.

The one thing not said here: Gortwog wasn't half-human. Tiber Septim became an Orc for a span. Mentioned this before.

If we accept "Arcturian Heresy" as the basic (though not absolute) source of Talos origin, then we still have a question about Talos of Atmora. He did exist because we have Elk's drawing. And also Greybeards' stories. Maybe Hjalti was in fact from Atmora? I don't like the idea that the only Atmoran element in Talos was half-dead Wulfharth. Could Talos of Atmora be in another reality (where Vivec was god), which fused with Hjalti's by Dragon Break? :) It greatly reminds me Vehk-and-Vehk situation.
Voted for Nord, anyway. =P
