Rad Away

Post » Wed Dec 30, 2009 6:10 pm

Hey boardies, I've been playing Fallout: New Vegas for a little over a week and a half. I'm a level 13 at the moment, and I've gone the route of playing for Caesar's legion. I've been trying to get to Black mountain to search for the missing Brother hood of steel patrol and kill the Nightkin leader, Tabitha. But I've got a high radiation level (don't know how that happened, could have been from the Repcon testing facility in the lower levels) anyways! along with the topic;

1) Trying to get through to Black mountain and kill the Nightkin who are currently posted there (I only have to kill the Nightkin sniper posted there, I died and forgot to save)

2) Every time I try to get back up to Black mountain, I die due to radiation.

3) Can't find any Rad-away what so ever. It svcks so much!

4) Every vendor I visit, no one is good for Rad-away. (Goodsprings, Novac, etc.)

5) If I even consume a Nuka-Cola beverage, I'll die. That's how bad I need Rad Away right now.

Conclusion:

- Does anyone here know where I can locate and find some Rad-away so I can get rid of my incredibly high level of radiation?

I have plenty once I start buying.

And take some Rad-X while you are at radiated areas.

You find it all over the place. Just scavenge and look in EVERY box, EVERY locker and EVERY first aid kit (start here first). If you're willing to pay 100 caps, doctors will also cure you of radiation. Also, some of them will sell you Rad-away. Random vendors may not carry it always, but the various doctors likely will.

Also, take Rad-X and find a radiation suit if you're heading into heavily radioactive zones.

First go to a doctor and get cleaned up.

Then buy from hium he might have some or at least rad x

Go to novac there is a wondering doc there that might also have rad away

The followers clinic can sell it...

The followers fort can sell it...

I tend to have about 50 of them by level 13.

Trying to scavenge for rad away is way too time consuming compared to F3. Number of aid items have been significantly reduced in FNV as opposed to F3, where you can find a dozen of each aid item in pretty much every building you go inside.

Easier to just trade for them in FNV.

Yes, and I think this is awesome, as radiation NEVER posed any kind of gameplay challenge in Fallout 3. I was tickled pink when I actually got Critical Radiation poisoning in New Vegas.

To the OP: After you visit a doctor and pay to have radiation completely cured, your best bet is to stock up on some Rad-X and RadAway before going back to someplace like Black Mountain. Take a few days to visit the doctors and merchants you know. Maybe pick up a Radiation Suit or Advanced Radiation Suit (locations can be found on the wiki, but I'll tell you now that there's one just lying out for the taking pretty close to Novac).

I ran out of both Rad-X and RadAway on my first time through the game. On my second time through now. I buy them up now. Every time I trade, if the merchant has any of either, I buy them all. My stock stays at comfortable levels that way. I always carry appropriate radiation-resistant clothing with me, also.

The doc in Novac always has some to sell me almost every day. Strange she had none for you. Then again, I rarely see them in any other vendor, so maybe my game is just wonky and that doc hogs the entire supply! :)

If you're going with the legion, raid the NCR ranger stations for radaway. There's a bunch in Ranger Station Echo I believe.

What everyone above said about buying it and getting cured. Also, made sure you have rad-x and get yourself the space suit from (secret) or get an Adv Radiation Suit from various vendors (see wiki). At 40% these are the best radiation protections in the game. Sometimes when going up that mountain you have to fast travel to a doc to get your radiation cured because there is so much radiation. I like to take that mountain slow and kill everything because you come away with 1000's of caps worth of stuff to sell.

Good Luck to you

rad-x > any non-power armor clothes.

you can only get to 85 anyway and the highest rads anywhere is like 7 or 8 so why wear a weak suit when you can just pop some pills and keep your DT?

not enough to matter. it doesnt slow you down much and you get 1 or 2 points to strength from it (10 or 20 carry weight) so the weight is less than it says.

and i mean keep the dt from whatever armor you use and pop rad-x. i dont mean you should wear power armor. i only mentioned it because if youre gonna wear clothes to get rad resistance power armor is the only good thing to use.

I swear, that stuff is harder to find then snow globes. Just about as plentiful too. Last game you couldn't walk into a building without tripping over it.

First get yourself fixed by a doctor for 100 caps. Honestly prob any doctor can do it. Hell I know for a fact that the good doc in Goodsprings can do it. No matter how hard a person can try to be ignorant you can't NOT know who to get to Doc Mitch considering hes the guy that pulled the bullet out of your head.

As for Rad-Away you can arrange it so that the Followers of Apocalypse in Freeside get supplies from the guys in the Atomic Wrangler. Once you set up the whole deal out of appreciation Julie Farkas (not sure if i spelled the name right. Its the doc chick with the mohawk in the mormon fort you can't miss her) will give you either a free rad-away, stimpack, and something else every 24 hours. If you are really desperate you can just finish the unmarked quest and wait 24 hours for every rad-away.

Also if you want a faster solution you can check all the doctors for supplies. I am pretty sure most of them are stocked up on Rad-x and Rad-away and resupply every 3-5 days.
Julie, Doc Mitchell, and the various different doctors in NCR camps all sell it last I checked
