Rad Stormscrapping Question

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 11:26 am

I started the game not even 3 hours ago and a rad storm rolled through Sanctuary. It felt like a scene out of the 1980 movie, The Fog. Scared the crap out of me. But I liked the green lightning bolts. Now if I ignore it and continue to go about my business. Its not like Beth made it where the lightning can hit my character or it just streaks across the sky?

Also, scrapping question. I know I'm not the only one to try this but why is Codsworth unscrappable? He's made of metal.

I don't think you can scrap Coddy because is is an essential NPC/Friendly... And Rad Storms only hurt you with the radiation damage, i dont think you can actually get hit by the lightning.

EDIT: Oh, and just wait till you see the actual fog weather that they have... Can't see anything! That will really remind you of The Fog...

I see, thanks. Well that is a relief, I knew the rad was an issue but not so much as getting hit by rad lightning and having to load up a previous save. I'm glad I don't have to worry about that anymore.

I've been so busy transferring Sanctuary into a secure island fortress, I completely forgot I was supposed to go somewhere, do something. I am, well was until I took a break. Was trying to put up walls right on the green boundary line surrounding the island. Though I'm not sure there is enough scrap for that. So I am making a mini fort near the bridge.

Oh man, is there a specific place where I can witness this or just about anywhere?

It's completely random, i'm not sure how they generate the weather but there has to be some calculation to it.

Are you trying to wall of Sanctuary or a different Island?

G88...

Attacks spawn inside settlements, so walling off entire settlements does not help with defense.
Do a search on settlement building for many tips. :)

Like the fog ? Travel to the southwest of the map to see some really cool foggy scenery, with godrays on it can be really nice for screenshots. (oh and don't forget to save before going there).

Random chance of being hit by lightning would be interesting. Increase the odds with low luck, metal armor, standing next to tall trees or metal structures and your proximity to the storm itself. That would be interesting to see. For the settlers and such to freak out and run inside of structures instead of just walking around like normal.

It would make the Glowing Sea even more of a fun place to be :shocking:

Walls, if you want walls for how you want it to look, have fun.

However, if you think it'll help keep raiders out, they spawn inside the walls. It's a hit or miss, some settlements they'll spawn at the green building line.

Others like Sanctuary, they spawn inside the line. So your best bet is pointing your turrents not only outside. But build a number pointing inside.

There are multiple spawn points in every settlement- walling some of those off will help, but walls won't stop everything, so you can choose whether or not to invest the time and resources.

Your trade caravans from Bunker Hill will use the same spawn points as attackers after you've built trading caravan posts- Sanctuary for example: sometimes they come in over the bridge, sometime up the path from the Vault 111, sometime from out of the woods behind the houses to the northeast.

I have Sanctuary surrounded by walls- I have personally been there to see big groups of attackers come from outside and run right up to the walls and get slaughtered by turrets looking down on them, and then other times the walls are useless and the enemies will spawn inside the settlement. Enemies will spawn inside the greenhouses at Greentop and Greygarden, for example, so put turrets inside those buildings.

As you level up, you'll get attacked from more than one direction in multiple waves. The only real consistent rule of good defense seems to be well-placed turrets with good line-of-sight, and equipping settlers with better firepower than the default pipe pistols they carry.

FWIW, OP, there is a mod (at least one) on the Nexus (for PC mods) that makes radiation storms "deadly".... I don't use it because STALKER: Call of Pripyat cured me of ever wanting to flee from storms, but I've heard a lot of people like the extra danger.

Rad storms are pretty to watch, but man, being in one must svck. Just out minding your own business, here it comes, and great, now you're wandering, minding your own business with your stomach doing rolls like you just ate at Taco Bell.

Their are mods to make storms even more scary, rain more realistic and fog harder to see in, I really enjoy it because the storms don't just start and stop, they fade slowly in and out.

Sanctuary. I call it an island because after I left the vault yesterday, when running down the hill, on the right side it look like an island.

Originally, my settlement included 11 houses but I ran out of steel. So I went back and reduced the border line to cover 6 houses. I used the foundation on the right to build a 4 story shack. But near the bridge, I want to create something like this (http://i.imgur.com/x8LIUcD.jpg). Looks awesome but I need more steel :(.

How in the world do I get or unlock concrete wall? I scrapped many of those cinder blocks.

Haha thanks for telling me that. I'll have to do that since I'm having trouble figuring out how to connect my power gen to lights and if vendors sell steel.

Man if I ever stop fiddling with this settlement crafting system and just leave this place. I will take you up on your offer. Is there a minimum level? I just ranked level 5.

Right now, I am playing on Xbox One. I'm curious what other mods will be released on console later on. I'm hoping some of the smaller stuff are free. Like add in new animations or new clothes. Stuff like that.

Question to anyone playing on Xbox One:

1. Which button is for "dragging objects"? On Fallout 3 Xbox 360, it was pressing down on RS iirc. Fallout 4 option/control setting is different. I had to manually match each button to what I remembered from the previous game.

2. When looking at something from a distance, how do I zoom in without my character pulling out its weapon? Its really annoying because I'm so used to the way in Fallout 3 was.

3. Lastly, not a big issue but slightly annoying. In 3rd person view, how do I zoom the camera away from the character? Iirc in Fallout 3, I press down LS 3 times.

There is no level requirement. You can go there even at level 1....theoretically.

1) You got Rad poisoning from the storm. Cure yourself. Or don't, doesn't really matter.

2) Of course Codsworth isn't scrappable! He's a companion! You're a meanie. :)

Concrete wall is actually one of the floor pieces under the wood floor selection. It looks like a square block.
