Radiant Fool or Brilliant Madman?

Post » Tue Jan 07, 2014 10:24 pm

I know most of you guys here on the forum have at least or more than 20 characters, so you've must have been played the Dark brotherhood quest line at least a dozen times. I'm just interested in what your opinions are on Cicero. Do you like like him? Dislike him? Sympathize or empathize the little fool? Do you

Personally, he is nutz & annoying, but he at least upholds the traditions of the DB, so i respect him for that. I let him live, otherwise the DB is a lonely place.

Yep. Usually let him live, though. Can't have him as a follower because I'll be as crazy as he is after a while.

I find it best to let him live as he is the only person to actually follow the traditions of the true Dark Brotherhood. Not Astrid's false interpretations, and her foolish actions.

I let him live because he tried to kill Astrid, the most useless Dark Brotherhood assassin, simply present only to establish the fact that female Nords look sixy in shrouded armor. If he succeeded, all of the cool assassins would still be alive. There would still be a Pine Forest sanctuary, and the shadowscale lineage would still exist...

Technically as far as Dark Brotherhood rules and tradition go he had every reason to do what he did.

Astrid however . . .

Need I mention how many of the tenets she broke.

Actually I am seriously starting to wonder if I should take my Dragon bone warhammer to Mjoll's head for even thinking that the Dark Brotherhood are better than the Thieve's Guild who typically do not kill unless they need to *facepalms at Mjoll's logic*

Killed him the very first time. Couldn't stand him. By the Nine...*shudders*

I spared him on the other playthough and made him my follower. Turns out he's quite fun. But I'd still kill him, if he wasn't set essential.

My assasins usually were annoyed by him. Because they were always portrayed as very serious and focused characters.

Naturally, that conflicts with Cicero's chaotic personality.

However, one can't deny Lucien. So they usually let Cicero live because they trust Lucien.

I only played the questline once. I let Cicero live because I felt he was upholding the true tenets of the DB, unlike Astrid, who was interested only in keeping her personal power.

Still, I found his voice and manner to be nails-on-a-chalkboard annoying, and quit that character soon afterward to avoid him.

None of my characters since then have even spoken to him, and I doubt I'll play that questline again.

I let Cicero live considering that

Spoiler
http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Spectral_Assassin
essentially stated that according to Dark Brotherhood traditions that Cicero was doing what he was supposed to do.

That said looking at how Astrid operates the Dark Brotherhood I am still scratching my head wondering how Mjoll the Lioness could ever say that they were better than the Thieve's Guild with straight face.

@Elf Lord, he actually is insane even for a member of the Dark Brotherhood which is saying something but him attacking Astrid was justified by Dark Brotherhood traditions which I just mentioned.

You can only kill him if you join the Dark Brotherhood. Might I remind you that the Dark Brotherhood worships Sithis?

Nice job ab hypocricy bud.

He's more interesting than most characters simply because Bethesda has actually written some backstory and dialogue for him. Otherwise, he is extraordinarily annoying. I usually spare him since it fits better with roleplaying a servant of Sithis.

My feelings about him are the same as my feelings about Sheogorath: I honestly don't know what people find so great about him. It's not humorous, just pathetically over-the-top.

No, but he does suggest that Sithis prefers that he lives. Cicero is a faithful servant of the Night Mother, and really didn't do anything to betray the Dark Brotherhood. The people he attacks are not living by the Tenets, nor showing any reverence for Sithis and the Night Mother.

I actually find him oddly endearing. I let him live; he's an interesting character and according to the old tenets he was in the right, so... :spotted owl:

He's the most hated DB character (a title i think should belong to Astrid) and i hate the DB with a passion. But i actually like him. I actually pity him, and he has a great backstory.

Plus he has the favor of Sithis, so those who are truly loyal to the Brotherhood shouldn't dare touch him. I find it hilariously ironic how people who love the DB kill him.

I encountered him once Sir. Very early on in the game.

Cheerfully chirping away as I helped him fix his transportation problems out near that windmill.

I can't remember exactly what it was he said.

But he certainly had a lot to sa-

I want him dead.

Lucien Lachance used to train Shadowscales before he was a speaker, though that doesn't necessarily mean that he would feel that the Shadowscale tradition is worthy of the Dark Brotherhood anymore. It does leave a point that it would be a bit of a plot hole to turn around and simply just say that the tradition is extinct and gone forever on the death of Veezara considering the types of magic that the Dark Brotherhood employs, not to mention the fact that it appears that Shadowscales are/were revered like heroes by many Argonians. They'd have to try at least a little harder than that for an explanation if they want to ensure the permanence of the death of the Shadowscale tradition. They may or may not keep it permanent, though.

Anyway, my Dark Brotherhood characters would typically spare Cicero.

It is not Cicero's fault for being mad. He lost his mind when he got trapped with the Night Mother in Cyrodiil. Wouldn't you lose your mind if you were trapped with a rotting corpse of a old lady?

When I do play the Dark Brotherhood quest-line (I usually just destroy them), I let Cicero live.
