Radiant quests are the bane of my existence!

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2015 1:18 am

Click-bait title alert, yeah I know.

But seriously, I'm stuck in an infinite loop helping settlements for Preston, because I have to talk to him to turn the quest in, but when I try, he automatically gives me another identical quest!

I can't go near the Castle because the pest on the radio automatically gives me quests as soon as walk in the courtyard.

I'm stuck in another endless loop setting up these MILA things (curse their name!) for Tinker Tom because I have to talk to him to turn the quest in and yes, you guessed it! He automatically gives me another one!

I can't step one foot in the door of Railroad HQ without Drummer Boy Garrus literally running. into. my. face. to give me quests.

At this rate I may have to bite the bullet and do the main quest, just to get some peace and quiet for a while. That's how desperate my situation is!

Anyone agree with me when I say I'm not a huge fan of this particular system?

They need a no option for the radiant quests. Some have it, but the Preston and MILA ones are particularly annoying.

I just wish they weren't given out automatically. You have to request an assignment with the other factions which keeps my quest log as clean as I want it to be. But Preston and Tinker Tom are like "I don't care about your Pip-Boy clutter, all I care about is getting you to do what I want."

It's so annoying.

I *love* radiant quests, but I don't like it at all that they are automatic. I would like to be able to get the radiant quests when I decide I need one and not beforehand.

Hell yes they do!

Tom actually asks if you want to do it but you don't get to tell him where to stick his MILA.

I've even tried walking away, but unfortunately the "get another quest" dialogue is tied to finishing the previous one. <_<

I love them too, but this game doesn't do them right.

The MILA quests are not infinite, and I have no problems with the BoS quests because they are a great way to level up mid game and you can turn them down. Preston's quests are a joke, and as oP said, you need to talk to him to complete the quests and he gives you another one. I heard that if he is your companion while your doing the minuteman quests he can get bugged as well.

a " no need option for radiant quest" ?...no they don't, just don't do em, simple as that, you're not forced to do them, the games needs those repeating quests, everyone isn't just a visit every location once and done type of player, nobody is forcing you to do them, you can put a govenor on your own playing, you don't need a setting for it, thats dumb

Well, at least you can never say that you had nothing to do.

I could be wrong, but i think Preston/Freedom radio are designed to keep em coming

for the Freedom Radio, just dont listen to it in your Pip Boy and you can avoid those; as far as Preston, he dishes em out one at a time I believe (except for the very beginning when you're still trying to liberate and establish new settlements

I believe these mechanics are here to keep things going with the whole Minuteman/settlement questline, but if i'm not mistaken unless its a scenario where you literally get an alert to defend a settlement you can put these one or two minuteman/settlement quests on the backburner for as long as you like (without getting new ones...plz correct me if i'm wrong)

again I believe this mechanic is on purpose so if you want something to do, it's there

That's not the point. The point is some people, myself among them, like to keep a neat and tidy quest log which is impossible when completing the quest automatically gives you one just like it whether you want it or not.

it is possible to end Preston's radiant quests til you want. Turn in the one you have, wait until he starts his 'I have another settlement line' then turn round and run. Your current one will complete but you don't pick up a new one.

Did I say anything about a setting? No, I didn't. I meant when you get the quest, you should be able to tell them no so it doesn't clog up your quest log.

Can't believe I had to explain that. In this very thread I said I love radiant quests. Read the entire thread before replying.

Edit: And I guarantee I put more hours into this game than you ever will. Don't judge by playstyle because radiant quests have design flaws.

Wish there was a way of disabling autodetect player = start conversation. I really dislike that feature. Let me initiate the convo's and I'll be fine :celebration:

Needing to keep a neat and tidy quest log is a compulsion. Of yours. Your compulsions are not Bethesda's problems.

you can fail some of these go save that settlement missions and they still wont go away until you report back to Preston. You can avoid some by running away and staying away from him. I usually have 3 at any time. I spent all day yesterday after telling myself I'm just going to ignore them. I cant stand to fail a quest and its likely paranoia but i feel theyll be more vulnerable to future attacks and i think some of the rescue ones do have one of your settlers. I cannot let this stand! I will raid satellite facility 516 over and over.

I absolutely love that a way around this problem is to run away from the quest-giver quickly after you've turned the quest in.

I'm trying it tonight 馃榾

Your argument is most illogical.

It's already been said, but what we're talking about is the ability to say no when Tom asks us to set up yet another MILA. Or at least to say "Not right now", like we can at other times to other people.

All the radiant quests that involve settlements annoy the holy heck out of me. Between Preston, Freedom radio and the attacks on settlements it's just insane. I wouldn't mind the whole ignore them, except many are timed and if you fail them you get to fix all that junk that broke when you do visit the settlement. The settlements that have a high defense should not be needing our help. Thats why we set them up with fences, turrets and guards. If preston knows that they need help across the map he should know when they got it too, so I see no reason why I have to report to him over every little thing.

Love the game, but the radiant quests can be a bit much.

Except it's blatantly broken, as is evidenced by the dialogue where Tinker Tom implies you have a choice, then fails to give you said choice. It's as if certain dialogue triggers are completely missing. Also, if this argument held any water, all radiant quests would be automatic infinite chains, but only a few are.

@OP: Agreed. This needs a bugfix, badly. Also, holy crap, Drummer Boy really IS Brandon Keener. I thought so, but didn't know for sure until I looked it up. Awesome.

While they aren't perfect I feel the radiant quests at least feel a lot more organic then the ones in skyrim. I took this as evidence they are working on the whole radiant system but don't have it down.

At this rate soon the radiant quests will be equally bad compared to their normal quests soon.. is that a good thing?

Beth does an excellent job building the world up and the minor stories of areas you get from item placement and readable material but wow do they svck at quest design. Their quests seem to get worse while their radiant system is getting better and the two will meet in the middle.
