Radio room? Worth it?

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 2:12 pm

Has anyone ever obtained a legendary dweller, or even a rare dweller from using the Radio room? Are they even worth getting? Did you have only one 3 room fully upgraded our multiple? Thinking if destroying mine because all I get us low stat dwellers

I had 2 at one point. When I hit about 190 dwellers, I turned one off. Also Keep in mind that Radio Rooms increase the likelihood of Deathclaw attacks. I dont think its a huge increase but it certainly does increase the rate you see Deathclaws. I too havnt ever got a non common Vault Dweller (but to be honest all of my dwellers are locked in a training cycle so Legendary dosnt matter so much to me. As soon as I hit 200, I shut both Radio rooms down. I rarely get Deathclaw attacks now.

Depopulate it. No people = room no work.

IMO the room is a trap.

It nets no xp

takes power

It is the inverse of the baby production mechanic:

Babies maximize new dwellers for throughput but not as many people end up happy.

Radio maximizes happiness throughput for all dwellers but you only get one new dweller

It also increases the likelihood of deathclaw attacks. OR at least that's the word on the street.

I'm wondering if you never collected the new person if it would still increase the attacks.

I'm thinking of putting one in my sub-basemant where I let events trigger and burn themselves out. Then putting one dweller down in it who will be my "Radio Troll" and never see anyone ever again.

I'll call him Quazimodo.

It'll be like a reverse notre dame since he'll be at the lowest point in the vault and using the fallout equivalent of church bells: The radio.

I've only gotten a few new dwellers form my Radio rooms, so other than the raise in happiness I don't see the point. I'm also up to the point where Deathclaw attacks are starting to get more frequent so I'll be shutting down the radio room for the time being until I can upgrade my dwellers to the point they don't get wiped out by the attacks.

I made a thread for exactly this question a while back, and the general consensus is that "someone heard somewhere that you can get rare+ dwellers," but none of us have confirmed. I can, however, confirm that deathclaw attacks come more often after the stations draw dwellers from the wasteland.

What if you don't activate the room after it has successfully drawn a dweller?

Does the increase in attacks still persist?

The happiness increase will still be present but I'm wondering if the deathclaw increase is tied to the happiness increase or the dweller draw.

DCs come to my vault only after clicking the icon to bring a new dweller. I've tested this by waiting certain intervals. And they ALWAYS come a few seconds after clicking, as the new dweller is running to the door.

However, they can also come as a random encounter, as I have experienced the following:

I called a dweller, prepared for deathclaws. As expected, they came. Mere SECONDS after the third died, I was attacked again! Luckily, I had Stimpaks at the ready. I find deathclaws are easier if you don't chase them down and just let the respective room defenders handle they biznass.

This is what I've been wondering.

I don't want that dweller that the radio gives.

I just want the happiness bonus.

My radio troll can live at the bottom of the vault and rot with no weapon and get caps shoved into them for revives when they die.

When they say "Is anybody out there?" they'll really be asking if there is anyone in the vault because it's lonely at the very bottom.

The happiness bonus is affected by the level and number of dwellers running the room, so for max happiness you'd want more than one person already at level 50. Charisma only affects the rate at which the dweller is drawn to the vault, not the happiness bonus, so that's not a factor for your plan.

Im my Gary Vault Ive gone from about 92 percent Happyness when both Radio rooms were running to 82 percent with none running. My Vault cannot expand its at 200 dwellers and Ive now got 5 Dwellers out at all times collecting stuff I dont need.

Actually the mechanic is that DC's have a % chance of attacking whenever the vault door is opened, going out or in.

For the purpose of this thread, I kept it in terms of the radio. Also, that may be true in theory, but it is certainly not true in practice. Well over 90% of the deathclaw attacks I've been subjected to were immediately after clicking the radio icon (which doesn't open anything - it merely calls the dweller from the wasteland).

We need new updates, i'm at population 110 and don't have much to do.

I don't bother about Death claws, since they do not pass farther than the third room (And I do not loose a single dweller)

Mr Handys gathers all the resurses. So all I do is just asigning dwellers to training rooms.

Yeah im in the same position like you the only think left to do is colect new stuff from the explorers and have new dwellers hoping they are legendary and open lunch boxes from missions

I'm in the proccess of recreating vault 69. The radio room is the only way for me to throw some new genes into the mix while getting started but for my big vault it wasn't worth using at all.
