Radio!?

Post » Wed Aug 19, 2009 3:22 am

So fall out three and new Vegas has the radio!
would we have one ?
would it be Computer based , pre recordings that might get updated

Or and I know it would kinda be hard to do, but what if it was player run? Select players would be picked, and run a radio show for the servers, in return they get some in game money and goodies, they will have to be in character, also they could pick up some things on the forums and leave hints to future updates.

Forums " some Crazy cats tried to take down a brother hood outpost, and got cut up, go by the name of the river dogs, stupid bunch of raiders if you ask me"

future updates" Some one noticed a new group of people in power armour, coming down in metal birds from the heavens, i hope i am not tripping on jet again, if not we are in some deep ( bad word).

would like just some music, fallout-ish music. Perhaps some prerecorded notifications about world events going to take place or taking place.

Nightmare would be gold sellers taking over the airways or trolls.

Perhaps just the game music interrupted by world or local events? Like if a group of super mutants attacked a town, the radio would tell you. Perhaps even for guild stuff? Would be pretty cool to have guild events on the radio or announcements (through TTS technology). Image

Still like the idea of a person doing it, other wise you hear the same stuff 50 times a day.
A few people a day, radio goes onto auto play during the evening.
Must be over 18, sign a contract thing, tis all good :)

I like this idea alot, even though i think it is a little beyond the developers usual reach and possibly a restriction from copy rights from bethesda. It would be kinda cool if someone made a plug in for the FOO interface that allowed you to listen to an online radio station put together by a gamer or in game organization. Server specific news, fun facts and music could easily be played. This is actually a very doable idea.

I think I'm gunna start playing around with this. I do sound design work in the theater business and I have pretty much everything I would need to do a broadcast at really good quality and I love the Inkspots. Another drunk conquistador conquering the governor's ball...

let players have their own radio channel where the chosen ones can broadcast. That way others can listen to game music and the important news or notices on fallout radio.

But sure it would be cool if you were able to ask help through the radio, a system that would not be exploited. Perhaps under certain circumstances, outnumbered, pinned down somewhere etc, you could send a pre-recorded message saying, ex. "pinned down at xxxx, xxxx, ghouls attacking, need help"

Yeah I'm think something Like Prairie Home Companion for the wastland. "Wasteland Homesteader Companion" Complete with musical guests, interviews and a radio story, with sound effects and a goofy over dramatized plot.

This sounds like alot of fun regardless of it being part of the game. :)

I think I'll have to sit down with a friend and start working on scripts.

Williams you interested in doing a UK version? Another drunk conquistador conquering the governor's ball...

Yes, But other than the obvious anwser that Radio like the one's in FO3 will not be present in FOO we are exchanging ideas on how we could implement that part ourselves... and I'm might be the one doing it... I certainly hope other people will to...

Think about it. In other MMO's it is very easy to have custom UI mods, Hopefully FOO will allow that option in a limited sence, Then all someone would have to do put a widget in the UI from one of the many free broadcasting sites out there with some custom pip boy ui and Bing badda Boom "Wasteland Homesteader Radio" is broadcasting in the wastes. You wanna tune in, you tune in. You don't, you don't tune in. Of course popularity would be completely reliant on how well done the programs were and the music the station played... but hey that's pretty much the same as every radio station.

It would be kinda time consuming, especially if it relayed sever specific news, But for me it would be more fun then any game and it is completely doable, with no attention required from FOO's devs.

It would be pretty simple to get recordings of people from Chats. What I am thinking of it might actually be good to have a few people with different accents. I'll keep you in mind Chinchar, But it'll probably be in the brainstorm period for awhile, especially considering FOO is still a ways off. But I will certainly post if and when I make something a little more concrete. Another drunk conquistador conquering the governor's ball...

I was thinking just a smaller Radio thing, rather then every tom dike and harry having one. Then the servers will be full of them and just lagged down, with all the data flying around.

And dnt forget me *cough* my idea...

That's the beauty of my idea... it wouldn't be handled by gamesas. The player would handle all of it and the Devs wouldn't have to worry about it. :)

and of course I won't Williams. Another drunk conquistador conquering the governor's ball...

I still dnt like the idea of having 100s of people with different radio shows... Depends on how many servers their are really. If it is just a few very big ones, it could get to be a issue.

Then require that the players have their own base and upgraded it with a broadcasting equippments before allowing them to broadcast to the wasteland. Until then only allow them to broadcast to their own guild.
