Rage won't start. Error code in Description

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 2:46 pm

As the title reads, my Steam copy of Rage won't load, so I can't even play the game. I get the console error "GL_ARB_draw_elements_base_vertex not available". My computer isn't the shiniest thing in the land, I've got a Radeon 4650, a core2duo, and 4gb of RAM, but it hsould be able to run Rage. Anyone else seen this error code and figured out a work around?

Thanks.

try the new ATI updated drivers, there were some serious issues they just fixed a few moments ago with new drivers. theres a thread on it here is this forum for pc help.. heres the download link, it fixes the outdate/corrupt openGL components required for RAGE

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU121AMDCatRagePerfDriver.aspx

If that fails, try having STEAM re-download the files through a integrity check.

right click on RAGE in your steam library, then goto PROPERTIES, then click LOCAL FILES, and then click VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE. This will make sure none of the files STEAM downloaded are missing or corrupt... do note, this will take some time.

Thanks for the reply. I'm installing the new drivers at this time. One thing that concerns me is that in the driver description it says that the fix is for Radeon 5000 & 6000 series cards. I have a 4650... Oh well, fingers crossed. If that doesn't work then I'll try your other method.

Cheers!

That specific error is such a new error, it's really hard to determine.. on one hand it could represent drivers, on the other... it could represent corrupted game files from steam. It could even be unrelated, and just be a card imcompatibitly or OS issue, in that case, the next step is to either wait and see if someoen else expreiences it, or chance it, and reformat and start anew, would be my suggestion... one could always wait for the first patch as well?

So I've installed the new drivers and although the game will now load, I get about 1 frame per 5 seconds. Needless to say this makes Rage completely unplayable. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for a fix soon.

I went through the same process as yourself and Rage loaded once for me. The game was still completely unplayable due to 5 - 20 second lag every few seconds. After quiting the game and restarting, I now get lag at the developer / publisher splash screens and then the screen goes black.

As frustrating as it is, I'm sure a patch is on the way. Keep hope alive brother / sister (though probably brother, I mean come on.....)

Found out main problem behind it all... Games not finding our video cards RAM. They need to patch rage's console to search harder for it seeing as i pretty much glued a big *ss sign saying where my best video card in my PC is.

its not a missing file rather that Id didnt make Rage's console versatile enough to actually SEARCH for video cards

The error code states that there is no vram when obviously there should be. That's why people are saying this is the problem.

Has anyone been able to fix this? I've been unable to start a game. It crashes every time and does a dump to an error log.

Running Win7 quad core with AMD Radeon HD 6700M series
Windows is completely up-to-date

-installed game
-crashed
-checked for driver updates
-uninstalled video card driver
-installed today's (10/4) AMD Rage updated driver
-tried to run; crashed
-verified files through Steam
-tried to run; crashed
-uninstalled and reinstalled game
-crashed

Is there some setting I'm missing? Or is my month-old computer unable to run this thing?

I have the exact same problem, I am re-downloading RAGE now. I take it there isn't a refund option on Steam is there?

You do know by next week this game will be running perfectly right? It's not like you wasted $60 unless you don't play through the game.

Which in that case you should have bought something else xP
