Rally: What is the Point?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 4:29 pm

So these are apparently the illusion spells. It looks like they decided to bring back the Rally effect given the names "Courage" "Rally" and "Call to Arms".

My question is, did anyone every find this useful? Do you expect people to retreat more in Skyrim or will this just be a filler spell effect?

Illusion :
Courage
Clarivoyance
Fury
Calm
Fear
Muffle
Frenzy
Rally
Invisibility
Pacify
Rout
Call to arms
Harmony
Hysteria
Mayhem
Vision of the tenth eye
Vision of the tenth eye (twice)

In other games with abilities of similar names, those are general group buffs. Improved defense and offense.

It's the nice version of Frenzy.

That's pretty cool. You can RP a bard, inspire your comrades with a warchant!

Or you can cast Rally on someone, then turn into the werewolf and they won't run away in fear. Hoo hoo hoo ha ha ha...

Rally used to be good in custom spells paired with frenzy.

Rally is probably replacing Command XXX. Instead of bending them to your will you gently persuade people to fight on your side. Of course that was complete BS that I pulled outta my [censored].

Hmm true, they might have changed the effect since Oblivion... They have perks for calm, fear and frenzy but none for rally. Maybe there are no perks for rally because they understand nobody is going to use it or maybe they have no perks for it because the effect has been changed to something more useful. I'm hoping for the later.

Also, I remember hearing that frenzy+rally was effective in Oblivion but I don't understand why.

Cant remember if there was fleeing in Oblivion but I do remember that frenzy+rally was better than just frenzy. Of course 1 sec ranged Command Humanoid+1 sec Command Creature was even better.

So there's no command spells on that list.

Are they either A. removed? or B. moved to a new school? (I.E.: Conjuration, where there is talk of Command Dremora / Dremora Lord)

Well, looking again they also have fear. Maybe there's a good amount of group combat and stuff.

You frenzy the enemy, and then you rally them. It means that they actually attack nearby enemies.

Without Rally, many NPCs would tend toward 'flight' over 'fight', especially if they got injured.

The only spell in illusion I forsee using is invisibility. But I'll be using that one a LOT. As in, shoot and arrow, round a corner, invisibility, sneak, summon monster, invisibility, sneak somewhere else, etc.

Sneaking keeps you quiet, but invisibility really allows you to do things. Combine the two, and you can manipulate a battle in many ways.

You might not need all the sneak perks when you have invisibility hotkeyed.

I'm missing seeing my charm spells here. I guess they decided they competed with speechcraft like open lock did with loclpicking. Bummer. And no I never used "rally" type spells ever.

^this. Illusion is losing its sway over my spellsword if I don't have charm. Invisibility is of course great, but I don't care for all the rally/frenzy/dominate line of spells.
