Random Attack

I have no idea if this is a conflict or if it's how a mod is supposed to be but basically I went to the Imperial City was went towards the palace area passed a few guards and all was good the then I started getting attacked by the guards with the name ''Palatain xxxx'' I think their from a mod but I don't remember what one, anyway I thought it was because I was infected with Vampirism at the time so I reloaded and used a cure to see if that was the reason and went back and the same thing happened, I then checked my infamy and that was at 200+ so I thought that was it so used console to clear it and see if that was it but no they still attacked me.
After they start pounding me the other guards join in but their fine until these ones with ''Palatain'' before their name start, as I said I have no idea what the reason might be it just seemed a bit too on the random side plus one of them who's an Argonian constantly uses some invisibility which makes it seem more like it's something that shouldn't be.

I also decided to swop out my MD saddlebags mod for the horse commands mod but have something wrong with that as well, when I try to access the saddlebag the inventory windows opens but it's frozen and the mouse won't move until I close it using the shift key, what's the problem with that one to please?

I used FormID Finder (forgot I had that) and checked a few of them and it says some are from OOO.esm and some from Oblivion.esm but their all scripted from OOO.esm, I also disabled RGO just incase and that had no effect.

When I had Ren's guard overhaul I got attacked around 70% of the time when going near the palace.


You make it sound like you've put that mod to rest and called it a day using it..

Had some other issues with Ren's as well, like attacking some guards, and the guard just greeting me with a cheerful "The imperial legion is at your disposal Citizen, what seems to be the problem?" (or similar) instead of defending himself. It was probably a conflict of some sort, but I wasn't able to solve it even with clean installs and load order tweaking, so I gave up.

The random attacks at the palace stopped when I removed RGO, however.

Yeah I'm having that same problem as well sometimes, when I strike a guard or do anything illegal they just run up to me and greet me, I'll have to do what ever it is a few times before they try to arrest me, I've also had some other issues with that mod as well it was giving me a CTD at a particular hour some time back so had to disable it get past that point and enable it again, I did try removing it to see if that had any effect but it didn't work so I can't put the blame on that one this time, but for what the mod does overall I still think it's great.....what are the tweaks your running along side SM regional bounty?

EDIT:

Don't know if this is relevant to this problem as well but the drop lit torches feature ain't working ether, and when I click the ''hotkey'' icon it says I have no torches even though I actually have four :mellow:

That would be an odd relation... Have you tried doing a clean save of RGO? Did you reset your infamy after disabling it (before adding it back, if you chose to do so.)

No I didn't do a clean save of RGO but I did disable it and return to the palace and got attacked again (if that would have the same effect) and because it still happened with it disabled I didn't bother with the clean save. It really just came out of no ware I've interacted with them and passed through there plenty of times with no problem but this time soon as they see me they just beat me down, and that one fight I actually cant win because they build in numbers so quickly :( ...one thing I didn't mention though I did have the Umbra and was still under it's effects any chance of that doing something maybe?

Did you reset your infamy? Removing RGO probably would not fix that. You have to do that too. I think the command is something along the lines of setCrimeGold 0

My crime gold was already at 0 my infamy was 256ish and I set it to 0 but the same thing....what about the fact that one on them keeps using some sort of invisibility spell, he's in ''attack mode'' if you will, but doesn't actually attack as he's to busy casting this same spell on himself over and over :unsure2:

That sounds like a nice little bug. Do you know what mods modify this guy? Use FormID finder to get his ID and look him up in TES4Edit.

Not sure if I checked that specific guy but the others where ether from Oblivion.esm or OOO.esm but ALL was scripted by OOO.esm, I'll check him specifically though and see what it says....after I find out what should I do in TES4Edit, I have it but never used it :mellow: ?

It is pretty simple. Expand one of the plugins that contain his record (you mentioned OOO already) and click on it. Once you do that, you will see, in the right pane, all of the mods that modify him. Check for mods that modify his record other than OOO. If OOO were at fault (by itself) someone would have caught onto this...

I don't understand what OOO has to do with this, if that NPC is from Return of Shadows. That report would indicate that there is an issue with that quest? mod, and not OOO. Have you tried deactivating it?

No I not saying OOO is to blame for the problem I'm saying that some of the other guards that's attacking me is from OOO but the one who keeps casting the spell turns out hes from Return of Shadows, I ain't tried disabling no, is it ok to do so though I've started it and have some of the items in my inventory?

Normally, yes. If not, the game will not launch without it. It is a not a script-centric mods, so you don't have to worry about your stats bugging out and all that jazz. It should be just as simple as removing any quest mod.


Edit: Did you make sure to not check OOO, the ESP and the ESM, under Factions and Relations in the Bashed Patch?

Nnnoooo, they are both checked, OOO.esp in factions and both .esm and .esp in relations......should they not be because I've had them checked from the start? :unsure:

Made the changes in the Bash Patch where necessary after reading the section in the link, far as it goes with the problem, after disabling Return of Shadows I can confirm that's the source because I wasn't attacked once after passing the palace.....So now we know that is the actual source of the problem what steps do I need to take to rectify it?

Drop a post in the mod's thread with your load order and a description of the conflict, and see if they will release a patch. My guess is that the issue is related to faction conflicts. Did you see anything along those lines in TES4Edit? You would want to look under the Factions branch in Return of Shadows.

Bad conflicts are usually indicated by red backgrounds. Not all red backgrounds are actually conflicts with which you should concern yourself, but that is the color you'd probably want to pay the most attention to. I need to look at my LO with TES4Edit real quick to see if I can direct you toward some more relevant records. What you are really trying to do is find records where this mod interferes with vanilla guards, places where it seems to be overlapping with OOO.


Edit: Okay, I think I had you looking in the right place. What you need to do is look at faction records where you see different colored backgrounds indicating overlap. The easiest place to look would probably be the Bashed Patch, actually.
