Do random Dragon Attacks only unlock after Fast travel?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 3:52 pm

I can wander in skyrim for hours without random dragon attacks.

And as soon as i use my fast travel option, they pop up.. sometimes 2 at the same time.. coincidence? or??

If you mean random dragon attacks on settlements, I don't know. If you mean random dragon appearances in general, then no. I spotted one yesterday, and I haven't used fast travel yet.

I've noticed this too. It's very rare that a dragon attacks me without me fast-traveling. Got a dragon to attack me inside whiterun city and even in the courtyard of the college of winterhold by fast traveling there.

I think you're onto something.

I never use fast travel and rarely see dragons, but I hear other people on here saying they run into them all the time after fast traveling...

I rarely fast travel but I see them all the time. Well, usually I hear them first then travel in that direction. Gotta get them souls!

Nothing to do with fast travel imo, when exploring u just need to keep your eyes & ears open more often then not dragons will be in the distance hovering in random patterns and if you stick to the road..yeah u'll usually wont encounter dragons.

Also if you happen to see a dragon head icon apear on your compass it might be worth seeking it out.

I've not found many dragons yet, but I admit that randomly find dragons is still half that of finding dragons litterally a minute or so after fast travel.
So you may be onto something there, but my personal experience doesn't yet have enough sample size to be concrete on it.
There fore I will take into consideration, if I want to find a dragon more often I'll fast travel to a few locations where there is a chance a dragon could spawn near me.

I haven't yet had a Dragon attacking a settlement, however, I've had a few dragon attacks, and a few dragons just fly overhead, while I've been wandering around. I've even randomly happened across a battle between a giant and a dragon, somehow the giant won??? Though it's health was down enough that I took it out with a few poisoned arrows.

Maybe the attacks are time related.

Since the ingame time also jumps forward when you fast travel.. might be the reason why it looks like the fast travel unlocks the attacks.

Luck gits.

I'm level 30 (maybe 31), fast travel a lot, walk/run about a lot. I've seen ONE random dragon. EVER.

Join the College of Mages. They seem to be attracted to that place like a bee is to honey. Have around 40 bones/scales from that place alone.

certainly seem to be a higher chance of a daagon after fast-travelling for me. I've found them during normal exploring also, but there's deifnitely a higher chance after FT.

Think of fast travel like Arcanums world travel. (Those who are into RPGS, I expect you know what Arcanum is) So in otherwords, when you use travel your effectively traveling the world not teleporting, it just appears instantanious. So anything you encounter along the way is what you will face, so thats why I am assuming you are seeing dragons when fast traveling as they are the only creatures in the game that can follow you anywhere and will follow you everywhere.

I'd bet each area has probability scale of when and if a random dragon will appear and with more time passed (or certain events occurring), its probability is raised. They would then seem more frequent if you fast travelled as time and distance is taken into account when fast travelling.

We shall see when the creation kit is available anyway.
