Random Events?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 10:04 am

Taking a tip from red dead redemption, In Skyrim, based on your luck (skill) and where you are, a random event happens. Like for example:

*Random faction battles here and there.

*Assassins and pickpockets stalk you.

*Riots in the city.

*Travelers being attacked by bandits on the open road.

*Crazy weather (Hurricanes, Thunderstorms, Forest Fires, Floods) Impedes your progress.

*Drunken Bar Brawls.

*Meeting other "Heroes" such as yourself in random dungeons and traveling about.

Also when ever you sleep or wait somewhere, there is a small chance someone (humanoid or monster) will wake you up and attack.

Thoughts and opinions please.

Yeah sure why not? As long they don't throw me to death with random ( the same) events.

Anything that expands on the Luck attribute is good in my book. And tying it in with 'fate' and random events sounds like a good way to do that :)

I really like the riot and crazy weather ideas, because it never happened in the other TES games.

Already confirmed that there are going to be something like this.

No random attacks during sleeping tough unless there was already something nearby.

I just don't want to see the equivelent of a Cazadore and I am fine with it. That is what I loved about Fallout 3, random events like the crashing UFO and getting the lazer pistol (forgot the name) or other events.

Not all the time but once in a while would be great.

This.

I'd like to fear Known Unknowns, Unknown Unknowns, Known Knowns, and knowns.

I would say it is a good idea since it would add a little element of suprise and it would keep it from getting boring. I personaly would love to see battles between necromancers and mages so I could interveen. The weather will also add a nice touch to it since it could influence me to take shelter if it has a negative impact on abilities.

Kinda hope the Radiant AI causes people to do some random stuff. Like in Oblivion how you would be running along, and an Argonian would run across the road being chased by a boar.

Not so much for the being woken up and attacked, but most of the other things sound good.

If done in moderation, yeah all up for it

BUT!

If its every few minutes then it will get tedious and people will get fed up of the game :banghead:

I wouldn't mind something like Fallout 3's "random encounter" system - there were hotspots around the map where an encounter could take place, but the encounter was drawn from a loooong list of them. Made replays a bit more interesting, since you wouldn't always see the same thing in the parking lot of the Super Duper Mart (for example).

A small chance of a wandering interruption during fast travel wouldn't be bad, either.
