Random events in this game never cease to amaze me...

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 5:51 pm

Several times after hitting the mid 20s or so in terms of level I've had this happen.I've had both draugrs and frostbite spiders magically appear in Whiterun. I sort of assumed it happened to everyone because I don't use a lot of fast travel but have experienced this stuff a number of times.

I had something similar to this happen. I get to whitrun and there is a giant frost-bite spider attacking the city, I was a pretty low level and it was owning, finally after much battle it gets killed. THEN I walk up to towards the gate and I can see a bear (the white kind, can't remember name) poking just its head through the door...??>>,... So i try to hit it, can't so I open up the door, and now I am outside the gate and wam, it one shots me lol, its standing right on the other side of the gate..

Really strange, never had anything like it happen again.

I was just outside Riften going to the Standing stones to meet Karliah. A dragon decides to attack right at that moment and since I had 6 unused Dragon souls already, I just wanted to ignore it. I realised that I was wearing the wrong armor and had left my main stuff in Whiterun so I fast travelled there to get it, I didn't know about the NG armor then. The same dragon started to attack Whiterun.

I thought Dragon attacks were random and not connected to the Dovakin but it seems that, like people who are talking to you, they follow you wherever you go. The Whiterun guards dealt with the dragon in the end while I wandered in and grabbed my gear from Breezhome. I stepped outside after putting my armor on to be met by a Dragon suffering from spontaneous combustion on my doorstep and got yet another Dragon soul anyway.

I arrive at the gates of Whiterun to find Ma'randru-jo of the Khajiit Caravans dead as road-kill.

i had a pack of necromancers and mages attacking me when i fast traveled to windhelm . It was 6 or 5 of them. Another time is when i traveled to winterhold but kept on falling off the bridge and died every time i fast traveled. Then i fast traveled to a different place and found out that 4 wolves would travel with me. I think it has something to do with me being a necromancer but i am not sure.

Is there some sort of reason for it?
Well known glitch that was introduced with 1.5 (i think) ...

I recently had a conversation with Maiq the Liar interrupted by a Thalmor assasination attempt. I wish I could have said 'I'm small fry... speak with him... he's got intel that will blow your pointy eared minds.'
As it was... after much effort... the filthy elves were despatched, I returned to the conversation: Maiq declared that all people were equally beautififul, and that I should go bother somebody else.

The weirdest thing happened to me the other day. I was in my favorite house, the Hjerim house located in Windhelm. I had recently told my wife Mjoll the Lioness (...I like'em thick) to move into that house. I entered the house later to do some enchanting in the awesome hidden room. So, I did some cheap enchantments on some iron daggers. As soon as I go to walk out the super-awesome-hidden-room, I hear my wife and the housecarl, Calder, arguing about something. Then all of a sudden, She starts attacking him with her bow, and hes all running scared around my house.

I was just running south down the road from Markarth when I randomly see two Hagravens battling two Spriggans. They kept healing each other, and in the other the fight took so long that I had to just dispose of all of them. It was pretty awesome.

Out in the wilderness late one night near a bandit camp that I was spying on before my ambush, I saw what appeared to be 2 people fighting, one was using Fire Destruction and the other was using Frost Destruction. This was an epic battle to the death, a fight between an Arch Pyromancer and an Arch Cryomancer. This led me to believe that their may be disfunction between the evil wizards of Skyrim, I mean maybe the Arch Pyromancer stole the Arch Cryomancer's sweet roll idk. But it was a pretty epic fight and I was rooting for the Cryomancer but sadly the Pyromancer won. So I did the good deed of killing him at he was weakened in the fight and proceeded to loot both of their bodies.
Ha - I saw a variation on this - a senior Vampire vs. a junior type vampire, out west of whiterun, in the hills. I have noticed, when wandering at night, that there seems to be more things going on. The ranking guy won, but since he was down in health, Lyds and I dispatched him quickly.

I think 1.5 did introduce some random non-gamebreaking, yet sometimes amusing glitches. Not too far from the aforementioned vampire battle, as we walked westward, a mammoth dropped from on high, trumpeted in pain upon landing and promptly keeled over.

But the best one of these glitches was when I was walking along a road after clearing out a bandit camp (the one you go to to find Kharjo's amulet, iirc). I come around a bend and WTF! A giant and a painted cow are just... there. Then the painted cow suddenly bolts, running toward me like a bat out of hell (really, at an increased speed rate) - it runs down the road and disappears. The giant, meanwhile lumbers along, so I step back away from the road, giving him wide berth. He's looking at me, but not aggressive. I step back, staying along the waters edge to give him a wide berth. He ambles along for a bit then slingshots about 15 feet of the road to the river's edge and vanishes in front of my eyes.

Maybe I should not have drunk all that mead.

You missed the first half of that encounter: the farmer and the painted cow.

1.5 has also given me a lot of strange fast travel encounters. I once Fast Traveled to Whiterun only to have a bear appear right behind me at the city gates. I fast traveled to one of the giant camps and was killed by a Mammoth that fell from the sky

Nah, I have had that random encounter. This was cow, giant walking down the road and then crazy randomness. It was pretty funny.

Oh, just saw something in game- not really a random encounter, but came because the Khajiit Kharjo and I randomly came across a conjurer up to no good... Kharjo did a triple head-but finishing move on the conjurer. I have never seen that before. Ha!

Today I saw the Headless Horseman gallop past my character...with a Saber Cat trying to attack him. He was much too fast for the Saber Cat and it gave up and turned its sights on my character instead.

I've seen the Headless Horseman a number of times but I've never seen anything chase it before.

this just happened an hour ago: Only level 18 ATM, and left Whiterun to go get a Mammoth Tusk for Yosalda from Halted Steam... only killed the 1st dragon so far so when an Ancient spawned behind Halted I thought "what the?" Lucky for me it saw a nearby giant first, and their battle spilled over to the guard tower north of the city which was being assaulted by bandits... The dragon made one straffing run on about 4 guards plus the giant in mid swing... the visual was amazing but I couldn't hit screenshot in time...

In my game there's a friendly wolf outside Riften right next to the carriage. The wolf just stands there and howls. This error was possibly created by a mod.

Sometimes friendly animals spawn. I've seen non-hostile bears and non-hostile spiders, and I'm playing on the 360. At any rate, I'm just about the opposite. Random events in this game NEVER amaze me. At least not once you've seen them all, or are trying to trigger a certain one. If you leave Riften through the west gate, and follow the road up until the fork in the road somewhere near the mill, and then turn right and follow the road across the bridge, you'll pass six-or-seven random event spawn spots. However, on my last character, I ran that road dozens of times and kept running into the same events over and over. There aren't really any 'exciting' events after a while.

Walking along river toward Windhelm, I'm absent mindedly doing away with a few horkers when I see Aela and Ria near me on the bank. A shape then appears in the river and undead-Skjor floats past, Weekend at Bernies-style. Frozen in dead pose: face contorted, arms curled up, but floating upright. I move closer and "Talk: Skjor".

Back at Jorrvaskr, it's confirmed; Skjor has been safely raised from the dead. Walking around and telling me I still need to "prove myself".

By random events, I don't mean scripted encounters like "Orc wishing for a good death" or Vigiliants of Stendarr or Dueling Mages and so on. I meant completely random, out of the blue unscripted events that you happen to be lucky enough to run into.

A thief getting killed in Riften only to have Haelga start to rub his crotch and say. "Bodies still warm"

That happened in Oblivion.

On the plain near Whitrun, a mammoth fling two sabre cats by using its tusks.

So, just now, I fast traveled to Markarth. Understone Keep to be exact. And standing right in front of me, is a Draugr, which proceeded to SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF ME because I had turtle beaches on loud and I don't exactly always expect to see a Draugr as soon as i fast travel into a closed cell friendly city.

Anyway, it swung at a guard and then Janessa one shot it for me. Anybody have anything like this happen to them? Is there some sort of reason for it?

Yeah I've had that happen to me many times fast travelling to the blue palace in Solitude. I assumed it was the wolf queen's undead servants crawling out from the crypts. Kind of funny really cause it was just standing there so I just observed every little detail of it before I put it down. Poor bugger...

Well this isn't so much an event as a glitch, but Skjor was brought back from the dead. He must have some creepy stalker Necromancer following him. Or he's secretly a briarheart.

Oh and the Wood Elf that helps you in the quest Diplomatic Immunity, I saw him pull a WWE wrestling move on a Thalmor Soldier. A full armored Thalmor Soldier.

Had a bad run in with a Volikur Vampire, nasty things.

Well this isn't so much an event as a glitch, but Skjor was brought back from the dead.

I for one was happy to see him up and about until he started running his mouth. And the rest of them: "Not sure why you're Harbinger, I don't get it, no one gets it, but there you are". Now it's leaky-Skjor.

I'm now standing around with at least four Forsworn who wished me good morning like I just ordered a coffee from Starbucks. M'aiq is lurking to the side in the bushes.
