Random facts

Post » Wed Feb 09, 2011 11:29 pm

I thought that it would be good to create a new kind of thread. This thread is for random facts about the elder scrolls world that many people may have overlooked or never knew existed. Whether it be from obscure dialouge or book or whatever post it here and lets see what we can find. I'll start with two.

1.)there is a variety of slaughterfish called electric slaughterfish.

2.)appearently there is a law of magic that a scrolls of summoning has to represent the summoning in some fasion called the law of similarity. here's the quote.

"scrolls of summoning are, without exception, based on the law of similarity as you must know. While other use parts of the creature, such as daedra skin for summoning daedra, I have developed a new method, based on a recovered dwemer machine. my scrolls only have an image of the daedra, which works almost as well as a daedra skin or heart... and at a fraction of the cost" ---milyn faram

So tell us what obscure facts have you found that most might have overlooked?

Daedra have to be exorcised from children by the temples when they run amok. There was a quest for it in game.

Guar can be milked. Guar are reptiles.

edit: Hmmmm, upon closer examination this seems to have been lurking in my head because Mods put it there. Serves me right for not doing the research beforehand.

It would seem all reptiles living upon Nirn are partially mammalian.
I suppose, it being a fantasy world and all, that we can't really think of things in terms of 'reptile' and 'mammal;' biologically, their evolutionary paths would be vastly different from our own, and allowing for god-creation of all the species, our concepts of 'science' really couldn't apply to them at all.

Erm.. Don't take eveything as being true people.
anyway, guar milk may not be milk in the conventional sense. Some birds produce "milk" from their crops. It is merely a secretion from their crop that looks milky and they feed their young with it. So "milk" PIgeons do it for example

Nirn is loosely based on The Busy World of Richard Scarry.

Morrowind's aesthetic is loosely based on the Dark Crystal.

As I'm thinking about it, Guar would be used for their eggs as well if they laid eggs, which would then be incorporated into the dialogue snippet on Guar about raising them for their Meat and Skin. So they must have live-young.

But I haven't seen a pouch for me to ride in, which upsets me.

Imagine, a champion of khorne riding inside the pouch of a guar...I would be the most fearsome chaos champion around if I could ever find one without cutting it open.

Well, it need to be alive, and every time I try making my own pouch in one, it ends up just bleeding everywhere. Sometimes its spills out other things too. Waste of a good guar.

Lets see, a random fact...the Yokudans nuked their own continent of Yokuda by using swords.

The presumed capital of the new Aldmeri Dominion, the Thalmoor, is Firsthold. Firsthold's queen is a half-Breton half-Dunmer by the name of Elyssana.

Yeeaaahh, doing pretty well for herself, isn't she?

She could've, but I guess I give her more credit because she knocked heads with her brother Helseth.

Crud! I knew there wasn't something right about that post: Elysanna isn't related to Barenziah at all, she's the Queen of Wayrest. Its Morgiah who I'm thinking of. What was that about names I was talking about in the Lord of Souls thread?
