Random Fortify Health glitch despite no Active Effect for it

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 1:51 pm

The problem: My health is permanently fortified despite not having any enchantment, ability, or power to make it so.

I'm trying to work out whether this is a glitch or occurs on purpose, so your input would be appreciated. Is your character's health fortified too (check on the skills menu), despite having no Fortify Health effects on the Active Effects menu? I have multiple playthroughs and it has happened eventually for all of them.

Not sure if glitch, or a deliberate thing that occurs at a certain level, or certain quest, etc.....Any ideas?

P.S - if you are wondering why I dislike free Health, it's because I like to play as a "glass cannon" (powerful offense, weak defense) - the challenge of that particular gameplay satisfies me. I prefer to have the big creatures like dragons and bears kill me instantly with melee power attacks, it's just the way I roll. My health SHOULD still be at 100 (I haven't put a single point into it), yet it has some Invisible Fortify Health making it a whopping 385.

A similar thing happened to me. Around Level 8 I tasted a Nirnroot to learn it's effects; it was Damage Health. Level 44, Health- 277/280. Essentially the Damage Heath effect never went away, despite not appearing on the Active Effects list. :/

Nope. It is a bit grating, but I managed to live with it.

Are you on PC? if yes then i think there's a command called dispelalleffects or something; that dispels effects that have a time period.

I play on PS3. I don't know why but for some reason I can't play Bethesda games with keyboards.

Yeah, I dislike consoles. Cool, thanks for the tip - I had a quick look through the console commands but I must have missed that - whoops.

Just had a look - dispelallspells..... Nice! Thanks. Will test it out, fingers crossed.

*EDIT*===============================

Didn't work. Damn. A least that means it isn't an alchemy or spell effect. It is registered as an ability.....

Ooohhh- Someone has discovered what causes the glitch!

http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/45078/how-do-i-reverse-a-permanent-health-buff

If you take a fortify health potion, and then your health is really low when it wears off (that mathematically you should die from below zero health)... Your health is permanently fortified.

Hmmmmm. They mention console commands to fix it. Anyone know? dispellallspells doesn't work.

Ah, wonderful. I worked out the solution:

player.forceav health [x]

Where [x] is what your health SHOULD be. (If you have done it correctly, the health will appear in white text.)
