Random freezes during gameplay

Hello there,

Recently I decided to replay Fallout 3. I beat it twice before on my old PC with no serious issues, but now that I've moved to a new one with Win 7 installed, the game freezes every few minutes or so and the process needs to be closed. I searched around and found that it's a rather common issue, having to do with multi-core. I've since tried just about every fix I could find (editing the .ini file, setting affinity, compatibilty, disabling .NET and all that), but nothing seemed to work and the freezes keep occuring.

So, I thought maybe someone here would be able to provide some tips on how to fix the problem. All input would be appreciated. :)

First, did you follow this install guide?

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1465357-installing-fallout-3-with-windows-78-and-xp/

There are only two INI tweaks needed, maybe a third one for the game pad rumble in the Prefs file, but that's it.

If you have installed in the suggested location, made those two/three ini changes, installed the latest version of GFWL and disabled the rumble or the gamepad, then it should run just fine. Also, make sure your AV program is not interfering, and your not trying to run IM's or Media programs in the background while playing the game.

Unless you have a codec issue, that can cause issues too. Do you have Arcsoft? Asus Gamer OSD? Asus Xonar (not the card, but the audio enhancement program)
