Random Greetings

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 11:30 am

Playing Oblivion and a little Morrowind i found it really irritating being greeted by 8/10 NPCs i passed by

the way that the games are developed your supposed to start as a Nobody, so, if you were to just go into a tavern right after getting out of the sewer(oblivion) why is it that most of the NPCs would actually bother to greet you once you enter.

I remember walking down some stairs in MW and there were so many people going, "HI!" and "How are you today?" that I thought it was a surprise party :P

# 2

For #3 it seems like the sort of thing that should only happen if you speak to somebody. I mean how do they know what you look like, even if you're famous?

Indeed. Just get rid of it. Reminds me too much of real life
Seriously? I guess it's just the way things were, especially in Oblivion. It's not like I was the only one being greeted, everyone got that treatment. I think with civil war on the doorstep and beyond, the tone should be a bit less polite and more suspicious, and of course based on (general) fame and (faction) reputations and (racial) differences - more like Morrowind.

But sure, I guess the amount could be toned down somewhat. Although it does add ambiance by prolonging a conversation a little bit (they were always very short), sometimes they also made it hard to listen in on stuff that was being said if you think someone discussed something "important" (make belief of course, just the way I play), as there was always so many chatting (in the "foreground").
