Random Ideas

Post » Sun Dec 19, 2010 11:55 am

This is a thread where you should post ideas that you think they should implement in Skyrim.
-Try and keep your ideas simple and realistic, no game changers.
-Try to be unique and stay away from the hot topics too (like dragon riding).

I'll start it off:
1) Bar tab
-You go into an inn and can eat and drink whatever you want on the tables or otherwise, and its only stealing if you run away without paying. Additionally, you can bargain your price at the end with the innkeeper.

2) Shield on back
-Why not? Looks badass.

3) Diving
-If you jump into the water, its the normal jump animation and you land floating/treading water. However, if you run and hold the JUMP button you got into a diving animation and end up under the water swimming. Easy to do in first person (with arms out), and could make for some cool diving spots.

4) Vaulting
-Instead of jumping over everthing, you go into a "vault" animation where you put a hand down to help you over.

5) Climbing
-Climbing ladders, vines, etc.

Post some more good ideas, or add onto others!

Pet dogs. I don't really like the idea of climbing, vaulting, diving, shields on back, and bar tabs, sorry...but some may think otherwise.

A few of these have come up quite a bit already, but i'll list them anyway:

1) Huge sea-monsters
- Not many, and they wouldn't even need to be quest-related. Just there almost as an easter egg to make the world feel more epic.

2) Some sort of crafting system
- Similar to the crafting system in Two Worlds II where items can be broken down into raw materials and forged into something new, but also similar to Nehrim in that you have to aquire the relevant tools and skills and visit a blacksmith in order to do the forging.

3) Darker dungeons
- A lot of the more ancient dungeons should have no light source whatsoever until the player introduces one.

4) Mount & Blade-style combat
- because the combat in that game is simple but awesome.

5) Music in some of the inns
- Similar to Nehrim

6) More horrific dungeons
- Ties in with 3) really. In most dungeons i'd expect to hear the standard echoeing groans in the distance, but once in a blue moon it would be great to hear a really loud, blood curdling scream that makes you think 'what the HELL was that?'

7) More unique weapons and items than Oblivion
- and not all quest-related please.

8) Deeper, darker ocean surrounding the north of Skyrim
- Kind've ties in with 1), I want the sea to the north of Skyrim to be intimidating in nature.

9) Keep the same night-sky as Oblivion
Simple reason being it's stunning in my opinion and doesn't need to be changed at all.

10) Dragon-specific difficulty slider
- A way (that's separate from the overall difficulty) for the player to adjust how aggressive dragons behave. Some players may want the dragons to be fairly neutral until provoked... others may want them to relentlessly hunt you down on sight and be incredibly hard to kill.

That would totally ruin the game. If you want Mount & Blade-style combat, then go and play Mount & Blade.

In your opinion.

In my opinion, that style of combat (similar, but not exactly the same) would suit the Elder Scrolls series really well.

Sure as hell beats a load of scripted finishing moves and cutscenes which belong more in mainstream action games than an RPG.

Mount & Blade combat was terrible, in my opinion. And it wouldn't suit the Elder Scrolls series at all. Taking your huge army with you and only being able to fight on a horse with a lance is never going to be in The Elder Scrolls series.

Also, finishing moves aren't going to be cutscenes. They're going to be like a "cut-off-head" thing. Or a "neck-slit" thing. Not a slow-motion thing or cutscenes. Or at least I think they are.

I want there to be more dialogue options with more of the. NPC'S I want there to be new dialogue if you've met or done something for them before there should be more than one discussion topic that usually involves Juss thank youS or rewards.

If I did something for a guy and I left town for a while and then came back. I should be able to catch up with him. The Radiant story should be able to really thrive through this. I can ask if he wants to go have a drink at the inn and trade stories from over the past few months or weeks. Small details like that mean alot to me as far as immersion goes.

The game has been pretty unanimously praised for it's combat. Maybe you just found it a little difficult?

Take the huge armies and horses out of the equation and what you've got is realistic and satisfying hack, slash and thrust combat that's infinitely better than the combat in Oblivion (which looks like you're painting enemies with a paintbrush, not hitting them with a sword).

Out of curiosity, what games have great combat that could potentially suit Skyrim, in your opinion?

You think M&B has terrible combat, yet you like the combat in those games?

This discussion is over.

Richer, stronger neighbors. In Oblivion you were pretty much the richest person in the world if you found for example a daedric briastplate. In fact that briastplate alone was so valuable no one could buy it off you or trade you for it. There were a few NPC′s who got daedric armor (Mazoga) but you could count them with the fingers of only one of your hands.

In Skyrim I hope to see vendors who can buy anything, if a group of smiths run a large shop where they combine their efforts to make quality items that get sold well they should be plenty rich, and there should be more adventurers that meet success than just you, so the economics of the world should be able to support people trading expensive artifacts.

So basically my idea is just a stronger economy that can actually support adventurers. You can′t really say "Well Bethesda knows that already" since they didn′t make a change with it from Morrowind to Oblivion, so I′m hoping come Skyrim they will strengthen the economy.

I found an Oblivion mod that gave alternative starting points with the player beginning the main quest only after finding a body on the road. I was thinking why lock the player into a role or quest [like Oblivion] at the start of Skyrim. Why not give the player alternative starting points so that they can take their time, explore, do side quest, grow in skills, rise in stats and once they reach a certain level [halfway or 2/3 way through game] an incident happens or body is found that begins the main quest.

I saw that mod too. It wasn't too great. It was hard to find the body.

1) SPEARS!

2) Climbing

3) Visible equipment on your body (I've always wanted to wear a bow and quiver on my back, and a sword at my hip at the same time.)

If in-game six is on your mind, you should probably rethink your life.

What about some sort of Atlantis? Maybe you find it searching for a sunken ship. Could be cool for an expansion.

Yeah, Oblivion's animations svcked. Their First Person svcked, and it was supposed to be played that way... They weren't even trying.
