So I was playing yesterday, trying to set up a MILA so I was high above Boston on a building or highway overpass and just walking around I randomly got experience of close to 30. Then I had to reload and in a different area at about the same time I randomly got XP again. Then about an hour later, still on an overpass I again randomly got XP!

This has never happened to me before, and there was no onscreen explanation. I had Danse with me and he is prone to shooting things but I don't remember him yelling anything at these times. I hadn't just shot at anyone so I don't think it was from some old target bleeding out. It didn't say that I had discovered a new location (I wasn't particularly looking out at the world when I got these XP drops)

Anyway, I can't figure out what it is. I sort of feel like it was a repeating timed event. I guess posting here to see if anybody else has gotten this or has any ideas...

I play without companions, and this "random xp" has happened to me as well.

No idea where it comes from, but...who can argue with free xp?

Some enemies will fall to their deaths from a distant. I've gotten xp just standing around tall places. Maybe they agro on you and died trying to get to you. My thoughts....

If you are friends with a faction (BoS, Minutemen, etc) and are close to where they are in a battle with whomever, you will get XP from each kill.

Any of my characters also receive various XP because I leave landmines in a few re-spawn spots.

You can also get XP from your settlement defensives (turrets or settlers) killing stuff.

thanks, I just read that forum and the best theories were Provisioner kills and enemies falling off places. My guess is its a provisioner kill happenning way below me and sense I was so high up I couldn't hear or see. Bummer, I was hoping my settlers were farming XP or something!

Sometimes your settlers or settlement guns will kill something and you get that xp for it.

Like you get income from the settlement according to number of settlers there if having a sales stall... probably.

I'm pretty positive it's not all from the provisioners. Random XP does happen and much like Bloodborne it's when they run into something and clip through the textures and fall to their deaths.
