Randomly Losing Video Signal

Post » Mon May 04, 2009 12:53 am

Currently running 8GB RAM, i5 cpu, and a GTX 460 gpu. I was able to run the demo at max settings without a hitch. I can play the online multiplayer without a hitch (unranked matches of course; experiencing the same issues with ranked matches that everyone else experiences).

Whenever I go to play the campaign I end up losing video signal. My screen blacks out and my monitor pops up a little message saying "vga - no signal." This has happened all 6 times I have played it. The first 4 times I was never able to make it past the opening submarine scene. The 5th time I was finally able to get past that point and make it to the first checkpoint after acquiring the nano-suit before it crashed again. I tried updating my drivers and tried again. Made it to the next checkpoint and perhaps a little farther and the same thing happened. It seems to be happening randomly. My computer is still running and game sounds still come from my speakers, but my monitor is receiving no video signal. The last time it did it I noticed my computer did 2-3 quick beeps afterwards. I am not sure if this is a problem on my end or on the game's end. It almost seems like my gpu is overheating and shutting down, but if that is the case then why did it put up with multiple hour long multiplayer sessions on the demo only to quit 5 minutes in to the campaign.

I really enjoyed the little bit I got to play and was incredibly disappointed after the last time it "crashed." I am not the most tech savvy guy, but if anyone has any suggestions on things I could try on my end that would potentially fix it I would greatly appreciate it. I am currently reinstalling to see if that has any effect on things.

Thanks for any help and sorry about the wall of text. Hopefully I can get this fixed if its on my end and if not hopefully Crytek can get it fixed. I am disappointed in the polish the game has (numerous bugs), but when it is working the game is fun.

It is overheating and shutting down, I do not know why it does this so easily.
Despite how good computer you have... Hm, maybe turning down graphics or some special effects could help?

I tried going from the "extreme" setttings to the "high" settings (the lowest setting being labeled high is kind of misleading, but to be expected from a Crysis game) and I had the same exact problem. In fact it shut down sooner.

I knew crysis would be a demanding game, but after playing the demo so well I thought my rig would be able to handle it fairly well. Not to mention I can still play the multiplayer just fine. Only time it has an issue is during the campaign. :/

I've had a black screen a couple of times myself but not as often as you. I was able to bring up the task manager and that seemed to bring it back. I didn't get the graphics driver restarted error though so I'm not sure what is causing it. The temps on my cards and system are fine.

I wasn't even able to bring up the task manager (I may have been, but if I did then I wasn't able to see it). My monitor acts as if it isn't receiving a signal at all. Like the monitor is on, but the PC isn't (when in reality the PC is on and was just running fine). It seems like my gpu is just shutting down and I want to say that something in the game is causing it to do so (probably just denial) since I am able to run multiplayer just fine.
