Ranged Combat

Post » Sat Oct 30, 2010 5:39 pm

I've been allowed to quote a small line from GI magazine, which speaks about Ranged combat.

Ranged combat is once again dominated by the bow and arrow.

"once again" implies it will be the same as before, which probably is alluding to Oblivion which had only bow & arrow ranged combat (excluding staffs & magic), but "dominated by" implies majority, which implies that there is a minority, which could mean not only having Bow & Arrow ranged weaponry.

Of course the minority could be staffs and magic, but do you think throwing weapons will be in?

I'm not sure, but I hope they bring back the crossbow and darts from Morrowind

I didnt care for the variations of ranged combat in morrowind, i never used them. Bow alone is fine, mabye a cross bow, but other than that, na.

I do hope so. Dual wielding is a nice concept, but a bit unfair to stealth if one can't keep a dagger in one hand and have at the very least poisoned darts in the other.

I hope there are options. Bows are certainly one of the most powerful types of ranged weapon available, but not always the correct one for the job. A poisoned throwing dagger may be more appropriate and less conspicuous if infiltrating for an Assassination. Crossbows should be good for unskilled users, but rate of fire would limit it's effectiveness compared to a skilled bowman. There is certainly room for options, pros, and cons within ranged combat, just as magic and melée. I hope Bethesda explore it again to an extent.

I think they have to include both a one hand range weapon along with a two hand range weapon, so maybe throwing axes/daggers/ducks or cross bows.

I want to see a quick reloading one handed crossbow to hold in the offhand slot and we can call it good.

Unlike others I don't want crossbows back.

What I want throwing knives...Lots of throwing knives.

Personally i think crossbows would be a good fit with the dual wield but it would have to be balanced with bows. Crossbows should be a one handed weapon so you can use a shield or a spell at the same time. They should be just as powerful as a longbow but only at point blank range and decrease rapidly after 15ft.

I think the 'Ranged combat is once again dominated by the bow and arrow' means that there won't be throwing weapons, nor crosbows. Of course they have ten months to change their minds.

I ALSO would like to see the return of more versatile long distance weapons. I mean a warrior would defiantly want to use a crossbow because of it's ease. But for people like me who so much enjoy being an archer i'm glad the bow is becoming a more profound weapon. Hopefully they add throwing stars/knives again because then i can solely rely on marksmen to kill all who oppose me.

I didn't care for the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion. Wish they had just had more Fighter's Guild quests.

Oooooooooooooh FACE! I seriously hate these arguments. And it's people like you who Bethesda keep listening to. Because of the eff ups with Oblivion, I will be carefully reviewing Skyrim before I go out and buy it.

I'd love to see crossbows, but I don't really expect them. Especially since they have said that bows are slow to draw but powerful (which is a niche crossbows would fill)

just wondering why bows would be the only ranged weapon, as theres clearly a demand for a variety. At the very least crossbows, though throwing weapons such as javelins and knives would be greatly appreciated

they said they'd be slower. but that's probably only noticable when you try to fire several arrows in a short time

I thought in past games ranged combat was kind of boring I hope they add more weapons to the game and twaek the system a bit to make it more interesting and realistic.

With the addition of dual wielding, I fully expect fast, 1handed raged weapons. Most likely thrown because: how are you gonna reload a crossbow with one hand??

Throwing knives while swinging a sword or short sword would be great you could be a wizard with knives so to speak.
