Post » Thu May 20, 2010 5:57 am

its been a long while since i played oblivian , i never really got back to it since i done nearly everything in it , but i want to go back to playing it again.

i want a ranger type character and i need some ideas on how to make one , i was thinking about mostly a bowmen character that uses some magic and shortswords:

Race:wood elf/kajjiat(sorry for spelling)
starsign: thief(helps with maxing out attributes and is a good one)
skills:marksman, alchemy, destruction, stealth, blade, light armour and i dont know about the last one , its either block ,secutity, armourer or acrobatics
stats: Luck ( to help max out attributes) and agiltiy

what do u think , i would welcome new ideas

acrobatics or athletics as you are wearing light armor. i think a ranger would be faster and more nimble that a pure fighter.

Race:wood elf/kajjiat

Fine. Race isn't all that important, really. The attribute and skill bonuses don't make a whole lot of difference, since the character won't be particularly challenged in the early levels and by the later levels, s/he will have gained enough skill and attribute points that they won't matter any more. So just go with whatever appeals to you.

starsign: thief

Fine. The agility and speed bonuses help a bit (though, again, they don't make that much difference in the long run). The luck bonus is the really good one, since luck has the most effect early in the game, and it takes a long time to gain points in it just from leveling up.

skills:marksman, alchemy, destruction, stealth, blade, light armour and i dont know about the last one , its either block ,secutity, armourer or acrobatics

Marksman, destruction, sneak, blade and light armor are all fine. Be careful of alchemy - if you make a lot of potions, it can go up far too fast. I prefer it as a minor, just so that I don't have to worry about leveling up too quickly, but if you're careful with it and limit yourself to only making the potions you'll need (as opposed to, say, harvesting all the graqes and tomatoes around Skingrad and making 75 restore fatigue potions :whistling: ), it's fine as a major. If it was me, I'd probably go with Mysticism instead of Alchemy. I don't use Mysticism effects a whole lot and I like to have it as a major so that I can get access to the ones I want (particularly Soul Trap) without having to train it. For the seventh, I'd tend to go with armorer, presuming you pick stealth as your specialization. Security is a terrible major - the perks are almost meaningless, since beating the lockpick minigame depends on your own skill rather than the character's skill and it's glitched as soon as you get the Skeleton Key anyway. The skill bonus for the Skeleton Key is added to your base skill for Security rather than being tacked on as a bonus, so it makes it effectively impossible to increase it from there on out. Block is okay, but a ranger shouldn't have that much use for it. You want to be quick and mobile rather than just standing there like a tank and blocking attacks. Acrobatics is pretty good, especially for a quick character, but with a stealth specialization, it can increase a bit too fast, and the perks are sort of broken. And you've already got one speed skill with light armor, so you don't really need another. So.... armorer. Getting it up to 50 means you can repair your own enchanted gear and getting it up to 75 means you can "repair" to 125% - a 25% bonus to all your weapons and armor - in my opinion, the single best perk in the entire game.

stats: Luck ( to help max out attributes) and agiltiy

Luck's a good choice. I'd probably go with endurance or maybe strength instead of agility though. Both of those races start out with relatively high agility, plus you'll have the agility bonus from The Thief, plus you'll gain nice agility bonuses at level up from all those agility skills. But both of those races start out with normal or low endurance and strength (Bosmer get a strength penalty and Khajiit get an endurance penalty), so the bonus points are probably better spent on one of them.
