Ranger Class (future expansion idea)

Post » Fri Dec 27, 2013 6:57 am

The developers should seriously consider adding the Ranger Class with a future expansion. They are woodland warriors and hunters. This class would be extremely versatile with the following class skills lines:

Druidic Magic, Beast Mastery, and Survivalist.

Druidic Magic

The Druidic Magic skill line focuses on natural-themed magic. For example, this line offers various protection spells such as Oakflesh, Stoneflesh, and Ironflesh. Other spells that control the weather,

such as Ice Storm and Tornado to name a few.

Beast Mastery

The Beast Mastery skill line focuses on calling forth creatures of the forest. The Ranger typically travels with an animal companion, such as a loyal wolf or resilient bear. This line has a varied list of forest

animals that the Ranger can use. The strength of the animal companion is based on skill level.

Survivalist

The Survivalist skill line focuses on traps and tracking. The various traps are as follows: snare trap, fire trap, freezing trap, poison trap to name a few. Another ability called Trapfinding is used to locate traps

in the immediate area and Disable Device is used to render it harmless. Furthermore, tracking abilities allows the Ranger to track creatures and humanoids. Lastly, the ranger can treat wounds to heal oneself.

Thoughts/Opinions?

There is no need for them to add more classes. Just adding new skill lines is good enough.

1. Druid magic is already covered by earthen heart skill line. Because there is protection based spells there as well as nature themed spells not like tornados, but more like I think throwing stones at your opponent. Think of new players I don't think many new people with the right mind connotates ranger with ice storms, or tornados, or anything that is a natural catastrophe.

2. What class would this fall under? Especially beast mastery and survivalist I would think nightblade yes?

3. Necromancer skill line for sorcerer is more logical.

I think you have played a lot of WoW because most of those skill lines for your take on the ranger class resemblances skills from the hunter especially survival, and beast mastery even the names you have put share a common connection with the talent trees hunters have. As for the nature magic that is druid particularly balance specialization.

There is already a ability in the bow skill line called ranger basing a entire class on a ability already existant on a weapon skill line sounds like trouble.

Whatcha got?

Edit: naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaailed it.

Second edit: boom right in the kisser. Slaaaaaaaaaaaam dunk they call me Hidde Jordan.

Third edit: clarification.

Fourth edit: more clarification.

i am sure you will not get much love from the ES community when it comes to adding new classes but i personally like the idea of it. anything that gives me a reason to make an alt is good for me and the longevity of the game. unfortunately i have a feeling we will never see a new class in this game. we also will never see a new race added

as for the skills you listed i like 2 out of 3. the skills paths seem to be missing 1 important thing, DD. i would replace druidic magic with a skill tree that offers both damage and self healing skills. maybe the heals should be self and pet only though the pet heal would make more sense in the beast master tree.

From a game-mechanic POV:
As long as it's balanced, who cares about names and effect color.

From a lore POV:
There never where alive Druids in TES. Bretons are said to be descendants of the "Druids of Galen", but that was ages ago. - So: Don't like.
There are eremites in TES, but ffs an eremite is not the one to join a army in battle! - So: Don't like.

Beast masters and animal trainers always where part of TES and you can imagine one of those joining in a battle. I like the idea of this after all.

There's no need for any more classes, there's lots of freedom of choice right now, some even complain about it...

i think people would actually complain that a new class restricts freedom. most people probably rather they just add new skill lines. i personally like the idea of new classes but then again i love making alts so the more reason to do so the better imo

I'd rather they just add new skill lines than classes, a taming beast or something, rather than a whole new class, the 4 they have right now offer a good variety to build upon.

Beast mastery and druid magic has never been a part of TES lore, probably not going to happen in an MMO.

Yeah new classes down the road doesn't really make sense with how the game is designed. They have said there will be more Skill Lines in the future so should ask for those instead.

Indeed. We will likely see a host of new skill lines as the game progresses. We know they are planning on some new ones fairly soon after launch too!

i am positive if you ask everyone who plays the game 90% or so would agree that they want more skill lines. to me additional skill lines adds nothing to the life of the game where as a new class has me spending the time leveling a new character. again like i said before i like alts so this is the best for me. new skill lines means you use same character and just learn something new. i know i am in the minority here
