Ranger Related Perks?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:34 am

First of all, this is a great forum for what looks to be a truly great game. I don't post much, but I read it constantly.
Anyway, my question: I've played a Ranger type character in every RPG I've ever played, but I have to say the magic route in Skyrim is looking pretty amazing. Now I know with Skyrim I'm not locked into a certain class, but what type of experience do you want or think will be in Skyrim for the Ranger type character? I know we've seen some Archery perks, but I was thinking more along the lines of traps, taming animals to fight on your side, skinning, tracking, etc.

Thanks!

Well, since perks are tied to skills, and there are fewer skills than there were in Oblivion, the odds of there being perks for the trapping skill, the animal taming skills, the tracking skill, and so on are...minimal to say the least?

Traps and tracking would be really nice specially tracking , it would help to get rid of the quest markers , my opinion of course :turtle:

Yeah.. unfortunately, I see almost no chance of any significant ranger-specific perks, just because the perks that aren't general are tied to skills, and there are no ranger-type skills, really. Have to make do with the handful of useful ones from other skills, like sneak, marksman, etc.....

Yeah. That does make sense. I guess I just hope they find ways to make the archer route as interesting as the magic route seems to be. Hopefully the perks will be cool like pinning an enemy down, firing multiple arrows at once, or even adding special finishers for arrow deaths. Just a few top of my head ideas... Hearing about possibly combining spells make magic sound tough to beat as far as interesting options and a rewarding sense of progression. But I know on my first playthrough, no matter what, I be playing an archer/ranger.

Tracking - Whatever school of magic Detect Life is in now

Animal Companionship - Conjuration or Illusion (summons or Command)

Whether or not they'll have any perks specific to a "Ranger" remains to be seen. Archery and stealth themselves sound much improved over Oblivion though, and I wouldn't think it's overshadowed by dual-wielding weapons or magic.

"For example, perks can add a slow-motion effect and a zoom ability when lining up a bow shot at an unsuspecting bandit's head."

Seems like an awesome ranger perk to me.

Everything I'm hearing about what they are doing with archery in the game sounds really great, and even on the limited information we have so far it looks to be a vast improvement on previous TES games, I have no doubt that it will be more fun to play an archer in Skyrim. I'm even considering it myself, and I never bothered with it much in previous games!

Based on the Fallouts I sure there will be plenty of cool perk mods, went I play the Fallouts I have more mod perks than vanillia perks. This is another reason I am so please about this new system, perks are easy to add for modders while stuff likes skills are not.

Yeah I really do hope they add a lot of stuff to the ranger class, if they do it will be my first playthrough since I plan on making several because what fun is it if your 1 char is maxed in everything.

Sneak security and archery along with conjuration will likely have some interesting rangerish perks.

I actualy expect to see trap perks in security as we know there are alot more traps this time and deadly traps too...

As far as taming... not terribly likely unless they realy rework how command animal works...

Skinnging.. we know we will harvest meatn from animals and monsters but what else we will gather we dont know..
