I thought I read that you could unlock weapons & perks on an unranked server, but now that I bought one and played a bit unranked on our private server it's looking like "no".

But it does appear that we can buy a ranked private server. Will that allow our clan to get unlocks (via XP), rank up, then later switch to unranked (for custom maps) and still keep our upgraded weapons & perks?

Well NO, apparently not. The "help" tip on my GSP control panel says that if the ranked server is run with a password it will be unranked.

Could someone who truly knows about how XP and unlocks work in this game please reply with that info for myself and others? I read stuff like this and it just adds to the confusion:

We were running ^this way before and I saw no XP collected, but maybe that was because the server was passworded??
All we want to do is to be able to unlock weapons & perks, don't care about leaderboard status. Preferably we'd like to keep our server private but if we have to run public for awhile to progress then so be it. Once we rank up a bit, we want to run custom maps/mods.

Not sure why you'd want your own ranked ctr server.

Anyways, if a server is locked it is automatically unranked, you have to take password off for it to be ranked again. Theoretically you can set the number of public slots and number of reserved slots. So theoretically you could have 0 public slots and have your clan occupy the reserved slots. I haven't actually tested this so I could be completely wrong.

I'd becareful about methods that give extremely fast XP as Crytek occassionally resets people that do that. As in I don't know if Crytek mods are even still alive.

Ideally we want a private unranked server. But without weapon\perk unlocks that's useless. So I need to configure our 6-slot server in the best way possible for our clan to gain XP while keeping it open to 2-6 of our players. Later on we won't care about XP as much as custom maps and mods

I'm not looking at boosting or cheats...just a chance for us to get unlocks while playing together and move on.

Good luck levelling up, though there are booster servers out there, use em' then hop on your unranked private server.

We are leveling up on our (now) public ranked server. I've yet to determine if one can level-up on a public unranked server.
And yes we are n00bs in regard to this game and the server details, but not game-servers in general; I've been hosting and/or renting MP game servers since '95.
