Rant on Modding

Post » Tue Jun 28, 2011 10:10 am

So I like making quest, and writing dialogue, and scripting. What I don'ttt like doing, is making cells, placing furniture, and doing the more basic, necessary things to mod. This post is merely a rant to vent my frustration at having to make so many freaking cells filled with complete crap that nobody is ever even going to notice, but will none the less complain about if I don't include. I mean, who freaking cares if there is bread and a plate on the table or not? Not me. Not to mention having to fit together those freaking interior tileset peices. It makes me want to punch walls. .00001 off my butt. Who cares, just fix yourself, gah! And also, making a house/building fit in the world outside and not sticking out like a soar thumb. *Hey, i'm a brand new house that nobody will ever enter, but uh, ya'know, you shouldn't enter me because i look suspicious and could potentially ruin a whole quest line!* Yea, fun stuff, fun stuff. Well, that concludes my rant on having to place interior statics and other not-so-fun-stuff like that. Thanks for reading folks.

:gun: to Interior decorating :/
Feel free to rant along with me :/

I know it's a rant, but I will rebut it a little bit.

I have the same dislike, it is time consuming and tedious, and not nearly as fun as writing a cool script. But it's those little details that make the difference between a good mod and a great mod.

Have you considered joining TR? There are enough quests to keep you occupied 'till the end of days, and you never have to make an interior again.

Yes I know. I'm such a hypocrite. If I played a mod and they didn't have those little details, I would complain! But, to be honest, I believe I've spent just as much time making a few rooms look inhabited then I have actually writing dialogue and scripting. Which to say, with around 100 lines of dialogue, and about 20 scripts, is pretty sad. But, I know it needs to be done, so I'll have to do it. Plus, doing the tedious work let's me come up with new implementations so I don't get bored, and can make it cooler :D

Well, I considered applying, but my only thing is, is that if I don't feel the quest, then I just can't do it. Like most of the quest that I actually enjoy making have absolutely nothing to do with Morrowind Lore.. as a matter of fact, none of them do. Or are even remotely close.. Most of my mods I enjoy are based on the Forgotten Realms Multiverse, with Drizzt and Erivis Cale and all of those fun peeps. But, maybe one day I'll put my part in regardless ;P

You'll be surprise how sometimes to see a lonely plate with a piece of bread on a slave humble shack can be more profound than any scripting.

Hah, I like interior decorating and I hate scripting.

I notice, especially if I've recently been in one of the detailed vanilla areas and then go into a bare-bones location from a mod. It breaks immersion and looks sloppy to me.

I know it needs doing, and I completely agree that it has a much needed effect. I just hate it. I understand if the player will return there, but to places that they will only visit once? :/

And Wolli, I might do it after I've finished/started/drawn out the mods i'm doing right now =p

4LOM- I know, it's just frustrating to do the same things over and over again :/

There's a reason why I ask others to make interiors for me: I don't like decorating so I ask those that do. :hehe:

I absolutely HATE making interiors, as you stated Slaanesh, it is the most tedious part of modding as I prefer mostly doing exterior work. But you should take just as much time with that, as anything else, because there are players that WILL go into that house (or whatever), and if they like it they will take up residence and place all their loot. I honestly spend most of my time on interiors adjusting them just right and cluttering them really nice so when the player enters, he/she will think "Wow thats nice I might use this as a storehouse." It also helps to keep that mentality so you dont go :flamethrower: :brokencomputer: also it makes the atmosphere feel real when theres useless stuff on tables that might've been important to everday life to the person living there. Just my two cents :)

- I am backwards with you on making quests though, I find it quite annoying when I forget to add scripts to activators then I load up the game and start cursing because I think my script doesnt work........or when I forget to add the symbols "#@" or whatever when I'm trying to add topics and stuff with dialogue.... hehe :)

Which is exactly the same reason I ask the dialogue masters to do my dialogue. :whistling:

I'll second (third?) the call to check out TR. You may find some quests you can enjoy implementing and we could certainly use the help. :D

Your right, I just never stop to think of those things when I'm fuming over why my cupboard won't turn at the right angle and having to handplace a bunch of candles so my interior can be dark >.<

Or check the Project:Cyrodiil project, scripters and people to write quests and dialog are needed. As of now I think there is zero scripters and 1 main person for quest and dialog. If you know how to disable combat music for a specific hostile creature, thats something that is really needed.

That's simple. Use the streamMusic function, and stream a file with extremely low volume if you want no music, or set it to whatever you want and put that in a script attached to the creature :D It's on page 140 of MWSFD
