Rare Game

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:38 am

"Rare game" would be great, and extend my playtime significantly, especially if there is a lot of them (like 50 or so). It should be a real challenge if it's implemented, to the point where hunting them all is quite an accomplishment.

I think that they should be random, and conditional. and yes, i would want collecting them all to be Hircine's quest, and at the end receive some daedric artifact ("The Saviour's Hide" i would imagine.)

I would also like there be at least one super-rare fish if there was fishing, only catch able under certain conditions, in a certain place, but fishing hasn't even been confirmed so no use getting TOO into that.

Well, there's not too much to explain because this is all pretty self-explanatory.

EDIT: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news/news-8167-Bethesda--Skyrim-Will-Have-Mammoths;-Will-Show-at-E3.html with Todd:
“It’s actually something we didn’t realise people wanted... we give people bows, you give them deers, they want to hunt. We didn’t realise that initially, so we’re trying to add that. It’s a common question... we’re trying to add more.”

I would like there to be rare game but they are just known to habituate a certain area which could be found out through the rumour mill or various books. When they are killed I think they should give you a special item which could be crafted into different things for instance armour, weapons or furnishings.

Great idea. I added it to the poll.

I agree they can be found at any time but you need to hear of them as rumours or read about them to have any chance really because they're so remote.

This is a very good idea. Although I think that other conditions have to be met as well (e.g. time of day, weather).

Yes i agree, and i think you should still be able to find them without hearing about them (however remote that chance would be).

Made me think that the world really isn't big enough. I don't want another game where you will find a "boss" at the end of every dungeon. I am very interested in the hunting aspect of the game and really didn't get it from oblivion the way I hoped to largely because most game required about a dozen shots to take down and it also wasn't very rewarding when you did take them down. However if you find packs of certain animals around and they behave realistically, ten or so unique creatures would be very attractive.

Edit: If truly dynamic snow is realised then it would be amazing to track rare game through the snow to find them for a real reward.

Don't worry, I pitched them the Nirnroot Monster a year ago and a cat in a robe told me it was in.

It sounds like a really good idea. It would give us something else to do than questing and beating stuff up and encourage exploration.

Yes... that would be amazing... i was gonna add something about tracking to the poll, but i didn't know how it would work.

If they don't include this, then I have some plans to make a mod like this.

I'd want most "rare" creatures to just kind of wander around Skyrim. They wouldn't be level-based, some might have certain conditions to when they show up, but others don't, and I wouldn't want any to be random. Mostly, they'd wander around Skyrim in the less traveled areas. They wouldn't "patrol" they'd just go around randomly. In order to find where they are, you'd have to hunt them down, find tracks in the snow, see dead animals that they might have killed, talk to people in town about them; reported sightings. Things like that.

All of them should drop some type of trophy too, like their head or a claw or something significant. Weapons and armor, meh, maybe for just one of them. The real reward is finding them.

It's all about the thrill of the hunt.

I want them to leave an item which can be crafted, plus a trophy and whe nyou have all trophies you get a special reward.

These should be either in specific locations...Underfryke Matron for example or certain conditions have to be met.

Catching them shouldn't be easy either, they should be hard to catch or hard to defeat/bring down.

I voted yes to all. Conditional should however, increase your chances of finding creature X instead of forcing a specific condition making it an "all or nothing" hunt. Personally, I want to be allowed to use anything and everything to forge as a weapon/armor, use as alchemy, and (if possible) build furniture. Hunting will greatly encourage exploring the lands instead of quickly traveling from one town to the next for the latest quest. If there is fishing, I want to enchant my rod with lightning damage on touch.

Totally agree, except for maybe a single exception with a story.

I'd like to see a variety of rare creatures: some that you find by quest, others that you can only stumble upon, some that are elusive and run, some that hide, some that perch in trees (if possible), some that lair in caves, some that hunt you if you enter their territory, etc.

In general, animals shouldn't carry loot. A couple of gold that a rat swallowed is fine, but nothing more.

A couple exceptions would be fine. For example, you've finally found the Great Golden Elk of legend. Wait, what's that? It's got an axe buried in it's shoulder, and it looks really pissed off. Or: you're getting info from villagers about a local Sabre-Tooth story, and you hear about a famous bow-hunter had just passed through asking the same questions. When you kill the cat, you find a Wood Elf arm and a single glove of Bow Mastery. But too much of this would dilute the experience and feel formulaic.

There's an interesting idea for a quest;

Random Conversational Rumor: "I heard that the BlaBlaBla Monster was seen south of Windhelm!"
PC: :D *runs and searches for the monster, only to come up empty*
Later Rumor: "My cousin said she saw the BlaBlaBla Monster stalking Cliffracers near the border with Morrowind!"
PC: :D *runs and searches for the monster, only to come up empty*
Later Rumor: "Yep, saw it with my own eyes. The BlaBlaBla Monster was harassing the Empire's fort near the Cyrodil Border, but the soldiers chased it off."
PC: :D *runs and searches for the monster, only to come up empty*
... several rumors, disappointments and nondescript missing-persons later, the PC finally mounts the head of the BlaBlaBla Monster on the wall in their crappy cheep-cheep shack-house, and marvels at how epic the previous battle had been. Then gets distracted when they learn that some people carry Forks in their inventories (and subsequently spend several days in jail because it's the start of the game and they have no gold to pay the fine nor a high enough stealth skill to steal the legendary Fork of Horripilation from the guard captain)!

For some creatures, in order for them to spawn, there should be the conditions other people have said, plus only a small chance they will spawn when the conditions are met.

hm... two opposite views on the matter. I agree with the latter, the rarer the better IMO.
