Rareunusual games in your collection

Post » Sat Dec 19, 2015 4:25 pm

So what′s the most rare or unusual game you have, for any game system? It doesn′t have to be a game with a big price tag, though. And I′m strictly talking about physical games here, if you bought Mr Gimmick for the NES on Steam it doesn′t count :P , neither do repros.

Speaking of which, I do have Mr Gimmick in my NES collection but only the game. As for unusual I have a 99% complete Action 52, the only thing missing is the special dust cover.

For the PC I have the KotN retail disc and it′s even sealed :) Not sure how rare it is but I haven′t seen that many out there so I consider it to be at least semi rare.

rare? well, I own several games that can be sorta hard to find due to only being produced in limited numbers, (Skies of Arcadia being my favorite), but I wouldn't really consider any of them truly "rare".. Uncommon more like it..

unusual? I was in a pawnshop few years back, saw a copy of pokemon blue for $1.25, so i picked it up.. however, its certainly not pokemon blue but just a very short and odd creepypasta-like ROM Hack.. I guess thats kinda unusual..

EDIT: Actually, i thought of an unusual game i have, buts its pretty common as far as I know.. Cool Spot, the things is just one giant product placement

I still have all my old CD-I games from when I was a kid. My favourites of those were a puzzle game called "Merlin's Apprentice," which I remember playing over and over and over, and a fantastically complex and gorgeously-designed Alice in Wonderland game that took my entire family aaaaaages of teamwork to beat the first time through, and after that my sister and I STILL just kept restarting it and playing it through again, because it took so dang long it never got boring and always took two of us to remember the right sequence of events. We also have a game called "Dark Castle" which my dad LOVED. It is, to this day, the only video game I have ever seen him play or express interest in. I remember it as being a really short game, like it only had 5 levels or something (??), but again, dad played it over and over, and we had it and used it for a long enough time to discover that on holidays like Christmas and Easter, the generic potted trees in the main hall level-access menu would have appropriate decorations on them.

My dad has talked about reading about Dark Castle, so maybe that one isn't too rare/unknown, but I have never heard of either of those other two games even mentioned in passing anywhere. I guess nobody wants to talk about the GOOD games that existed for the CD-I.

I guess it would be one of my imported games for the original Game Boy, PS1, PS2, DS or Wii. But they aren't really that rare, I mean, they may be rare here in Europe since they weren't released here but still had normal releases in North America. So maybe uncommon rather than rare :P

And I guess Morrowind CE is rare, not many of those were made, and the Ni no Kuni CE was sold out after the first weekend. Oh, and the PS1 JRPG Suikoden 2 was produced in limited numbers, so it's kinda rare, I suppose.

Heh, there's a game I haven't thought of in a long time, used to play it a lot back in the late 80s. It was http://www.mobygames.com/game/dark-castle/screenshots, I played it on the Amiga.

I'd say the most unusual one was the copy of Dead Or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball that I bought in Malaysia, which when I booted it up turned out to have all the girls nvde.

Hmm. Not sure about "unusual" but I still have a number of pretty-old discs & cases. Like my Mac copies of Myst, Quake 1, Diablo 1, and System Shock. (Hmm, I think I still have my original 4-disc set - 3.5" floppies! - of Marathon 1 around here somewhere....)

...ooh, and there's my original Mac disc of Fallout 1.

Aerofighters/Sonic wings.
I do have Megaman 1-6
Earthbound... Was looking to find a repro of the uncut version.
Metal Warrior which I only bought to see if it was one I played back in the 90s.
...

I was actually going to start buying those plastic cases they have for the cartridge games

Oh yeah, I have the Amiga version of Myst, which is probably the least known Myst release. Heck, I guess all the Amiga games from 1995 or later can be considered pretty rare :P

I have 2.

The Starcraft II Wings of Liberty Collector's Edition and an unopened Tetris for Gameboy that I won in the 90's on a Canadian TV Show called Video and Arcade Top 10.

I would have opened it but I didn't have a gameboy. Handheld games were rich kids toys. :P

My family has Shaq Fu. We also got a copy of Warcraft II before it had an ESRB rating, and a copy of Starcraft from back when it had been rated M.

Two worlds..boy was that a dont judge a book by its cover (or game) if I ever saw one. I fell for that game haaaard!

Since the company as gone kaput and We wont be seeing anything more of it kindoms of amalur the reconing goes on the list.

Hero x!!" was a fun and cheesy super heroscifi game

Battle beast was a fighting game were you would get cute animals like a puppy and a rat and then they transform into vicious bipedal monsters...my favorite was the rat.

I have some obscure NES titles, (like Nightshade, Destiny of an Empire.) I don't even remember the others, I'd have to dig through storage to check, but nothing too special or worth more than $30 each.

None of those are considered rare though. ;) They sold millions of copies, and can be found pretty easy.
Some can be a bit expensive because they are in high demand, not because of scarcity.
