Rate the Creation Engine Graphics

Post » Fri Jun 10, 2011 11:42 pm

I don't know.

Its from videos.

Its running from the flopbox.

How about something from a pc.

Then I rate it.

My opinion is this. For the time we live in? The graphics are alright, but they could have been better. But for the engine it's using? I'm impressed that they got that much out of it.

But even then, this is only from video shots. So I'm just gonna wait and see. And then there's mods to take into account...

Only complaint is some low poly meshes. I'm sure the textures, shadows, and grass draw dist will be better on PC, which would bump my rating up from an 8 to probably a 9 or 9.5. Like I said though, that 10 isn't going to happen with meshes that are as low poly as the ones in this game, I'm sure it was necessary given the nature of the game world, though.

The creation engine is complete and utter [censored] compared to those other engines. Skyrim looks no better than Oblivion.

Fail troll is fail.

Im not trolling. Im serious. I think the engine looks bad compared to other games.

The OP asked for our opinions and so I rate it a 1.

Todd him self said the game is limited to Direct X 9 features. It will look like crap. Just like the other TES games were way behind the times when they cme out. There were far better looking games than Morrowind when it came out and there were far better looking games when Oblivion came out.

The thing about opinons, you know, is that they're like Baskin' Robbins flavors. Thre's no end to them.
So untill you substantiate yours - which, unlike me, you haven't - it will remain in that little box alongside ?That Moonwalk was filmed in a studio?

The main thing it appears to be lacking is water reflections and shadows. There's a foot bridge by the water mill that looks like it could use a shadow under it to keep it seated in the world. Hopefully the PC version will be able to do more with that.

I find myself unable to vote in this poll, simply because I don't have enough information on the subject to make a valid comparison.

Some interesting videos though, just watched the IdTech one.

I gave it an 8 considering we haven't seen much, maybe when i see the pc version of skyrim my vote will be a 9 or 10. 8 is still good since we've only seen xbox 360 gameplay

There are also faster cars than buses but you can't fit as many people in them :\. There really is little sense comparing these engines to the Creation engine. It's like putting a bus in a race against formula one cars. It all depends on the winning conditions. If it's get round the track fastest then the bus will loose, but if it's carry 55 people around the track fastest the bus will win.

Comparing just the graphics, sure there are better graphics, but that's not the engines fault (particularly). It's the fact that TES is so huge and open world. You could not make a TES game with the same everything else as other TES games on a different engine just to have better graphics.

I wouldn't go that far, if you compare the skyrim pictures with Oblivion's you can see a big difference, I've noticed a lot of criticism from you I'm curious, do you actually plan on buying the game? also the footage we saw, isn't that the same footage Game informer saw? if that's the case then the footage is almost a year old and it's possible they've improved a lot of things like the physics of the giant falling.

Yeah I noticed the same thing he even came in to complain about Skyrim in my what was your favorite moment from the G4 video topic, I mean I am pretty sure the guy is a Troll or at the least works for a Rival game company. Either way he needs glasses because it is as plain as day the difference in graphics between Oblivion and Skyrim not to include the multitude of other improvements they have made. The stupid thing he is basing his crude comments on a low res, artifact ridden stream from the net, because the video is not sharp then the game must have crappy graphics right? :banghead:

I give it a solid 8, for the style of game it is pretty damn impressive especially on current gen hardware, you can't compare it to many of those other engines as they would have a major meltdown if you threw at them everything that is drawn in a TES game!

Don't feed the troll people and he won't eat.

I voted a 9, because it looked like a significant increase over Obivion and a noted increase over Fallout 3...and I almost never give anything a 10. I love the graphics though, the art direction is awesome and all the elements such as placibles, NPCs and creatures look to fit the world from the gameplay I've seen. Having flying, free-roaming dragons with their various attack animations is really the most impressive part to me right now.

Anyone who doubts Skyrims graphics I think its early days yet to judge them. From screenshots it looks like textures are a lot more detailed, and the game runs smoother, and most importantly, think about Fallout 3, Skyrim clearly will have better graphics than Fallout 3, and Fallout imo had its place in this Gen's graphics, so Skyrim should too.

Theres modders for STALKER who have made some very very good texture mods for it , and so im hoping that they will turn their talents towards Skyrim. Speccular Occlusion FTW.

Like I have said over and over you can't judge the textures from the videos they are crappy quality and full of artifacts, go load up Oblivion and then look at the higher resolution screenshots and tell me they still look the same, seriously I don't know what you are seeing but all the people who saw the game in person don't agree with you either OR they would have commented on that fact, I have not seen one yet!

Graphically, I'd give it a 3 or 4. It looks decent, but from what I've seen, could really use some polish.

I don't think anything will come close to Frostbite 2 for a long while (except for maybe idTech 5 or Unreal 3 with a bit more time).

I do believe it looks better than the IW engine though. Then again, I believe the IW engine is based on idTech 3 still, so that does not help it's case at all.

I believe it looks just about as good as the Naughty Dog and Anvil engines though.

Holy banana, some people rated it 1/10. If that's your honest opinion, how much would you rate old Gamebryo?

I think it's a good time to judge Skyrim's graphics.

We've seen like 17 min of the game so far in motion.
We've seen dozens of screenshots.
We've seen many different locations in the world.

Things like advanced lighting, texture depth, etc... that can be spotted with a single screenshot, almost.

In other words, I definitely don't think it's too early to judge Skyrim's graphics.

Hooray for Benchmark demos that never EVER shows what an actual not pre-rendered game would look like...

I can't rate the engine, because I honestly don't know what it's capable of, we've only seen it used in Skyrim, and even there only on demos.
But as for Skyrim, I am pleased. Detailed textures, great lightning, good shadows, actual HDR, better LOD (other than the grass). And the design is very good, with a lot of detail everywhere...

Yeah that would be Muncha the troll, if you feed him he will bite your finger!

This is the guy who said Oblivion and Skyrim look the same, and that every release of a TES game was always behind its rivals graphically, well I have been here since before the release of Morrowind and I can tell you for a fact that this is NOT the case, infact I have never seen anyone complain that a TES game has poor graphics or even below standard graphics and Skyrim will not be any different given the previews and write-ups of people who have seen the game running in person.

Depends on the subject concerning Gamebryo

If it's the Graphics then it's a solid 7-8
Stability is a 1, Oblivion is ok but FO3 and New Vegas were just bad. New Vegas wasn't Obsidian's fault, I blame Softworks.
Everything else I would rate a 7

Graphically speaking, what we have seen so far looks good. Not great or spectacular but not bad considering being shackled to 6 year old tech. I'd give the game a solid 7.5 to 8 for graphics based on what we have seen.

I give it an 8. It's not nearly as advanced as top tiered games such as Crysis and Mass Effect, but it's a big epic world. We should be happy with half decent graphics to begin with.
