First off, I will be the first to admit that this it indeed a stupid question.

I have had Oblivion since it was released and I noticed that it's rated "M" now and not "T". The original case I have is a rated "T" and I was just wondering if it was rare or anything since I know they don't make them anymore with the rated "T" on it?

Well, if it makes you happy, yes, it's rare.

It's not really rare, you can find it on Amazon every so often and Ebay as well. You definitely wont ever have to pay more for it, and you wont be able to sell if for any more money than the original game. There are plenty of copies out there so it will never be worth much more money than the M rated box. The only thing worth having it for is showing it off.

Don't care about trying to sell it, just seeing if I had a nerd trophy is all.

Well I guess it could be considered a trophy to fellow TES fans. That's probably it though. If you know any other TES fans in real life, I'm sure showing them it would provoke a reaction, but showing it to your average gamer would just cause them to ask "What's the big deal?"

I know if one of my friends showed me a T rated box, I would say they were pretty lucky.

But the box itself is something special. I'd be happy. I think even a non-TES fan would think it's cool to have an M-rated game with T on the cover..

Its not rare at all, oblivion used to be a teen rated game but then people started making mods that introduced sixual content into the game which raised it to the mature rating.

No the content is the same as it is now (Non GOTY).

Ha on the british amazon site GotY edition is shown as 16+ / 15+ / 16+ rating in its three shots on the pc edition.
On the non GotY ed it's show as 16 / 12 / 16, Console versions are all 15 so reality shifts often it seems.
Must be due to SI being more mature and mods being way more graphic as posted above.

I got the original xbox version for T, but the other two copies I have are rated M.

I still have the original T for the xbox.

That's strange, because I got mine pretty damn close to launch too.. But then again I have the PAL game which isn't rated by ESRB but some British rating system. It says 15+ on my box..
The logo is a little red circle, I think it's called BBFC or BCF or something like that, it's hard to read it..

Yep my old version says 15 the GotY ed I just got as a back up again says 15, on Amazon as posted above it has a 16 rating.
I think BBFC stands for the British broadcasting film censor, it rates all media from TV's watersheds to computer games, from universal to 18.
I'm not 100% sure but I think anything above an 18 gets baned in this country.
These were brought in I think to appeal to a campaigner for decency, one Mary Whitehouse between the late 60's to 70's but am not sure about the date myself.

Untill recently even swearing was prohibited on tv, one reason shows like Red dwarf, the fast show and other comedies even during the late 90's made up swear terms such as Smeg.

What's funny is that Best Buy wouldn't sell me a copy of Oblivion, because I didn't have a driver's license/ID on me. I was 40 at the time. I had to go to EB to get a copy, and I since learned that the Best Buy clerk and manager were being overzealous. The clerk had told me that it was a federal law that they couldn't sell a rated M game without the customer proving his or her age. The EB clerk said that it was a load of nonsense and happily sold me a copy.
