MA rating.

I know this is a hot topic for a ton of people albeit less talked about.

I for one am all for an MA rating however the lack of ballsy material, for lack of words, seems to fall short and falls short on the expectations.

I remember well the hokers, drug use, gore of taking the bloody mess perk in the series however when faced with the MSRB and then outraged parents that bought their kids these games without understanding what the game is about would these be removed. I am not asking for tittys bouncing like in Age of Conan but the fact nerfs happen due to such things are a huge buzz kill to a universe and its feel. I remember they crying and outrage on the WoW forums in Vanilla because you used to "skin your opponent to the bone" in Alterac Valley, when in fact WoW's universe is centered around War the most brutal invention of civilization. So however even if it was just that line of text that was removed, however subtle, it was rather big IMHO. The fact that the emote /spit has been protested over and over is a huge annoyance in and of itself. I realize that we are growing up in a have to be tolerant world to others needs, way of living and special cases *just to be nice i wasn't blatant* but the fact it translating in a game universe is a bit to far when it is supposed to be an escape and people cant learn to grow thick enough skin.

So I want others opinions on this. What would you do if they removed some of the key elements that make Fallout well fallout. How ghouls could be targeted as a metaphor for other real life ethnic group. Would you find it fair that the devs would have to bend over backwards to appeal to the sensitive.

I liked the Fallout series because of the way they wrapped the 'mature' stuff into the game. It wasn't just done for shock value. People swore because...well people like that would swear. The porm was done with a funny slant on it, six was part of the setting and blended in with the missions. Even the blood and gore had an exaggerated effect but wasn't in-your-face all the time (but when you exploderized someone, they went everywhere!)
Personally, I don't see a Fallout world working in a Teen rating with everything sanitized, but on the other hand Mature can be so much more than blood, swearing and tiks.
I have every faith in gamesas bring the right feel to the game.

Do it so when you install the game you are prompted to write in your age, if its above 18 foul language will be seen in the game (otherwise replaced by ยค#!&*") and you could do quest for the more... mature audience. One way :P Image

Well if the game is client based then the user would have to input the players real age upon installation. Allow the client software to filter the content.

Put instructions on the software (and outside of the box mention the age control) so that parents have the control and can't blame gamesas for the content.

nice idea in an ideal world , but as someone who worked in a game shop i know it doesnt work .
parents will still buy a mature rated game for a child and then still have the cheek to bring it back demanding a refund , when confronted with a colourful dialouge or a pair of tiks . EAGLES MAY FLY HIGH, BUT WEASLES DONT GET svckED INTO JET ENGINES
