To reach max level - should I use trainers?

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 8:24 pm

If I understood correctly, reaching max theoretical level is purely a matter of getting all skills to 100.

So would it work if I simply payed various Trainers each time I level? As non-magic user, without Trainers I don't even have theoretical chance to reach max lvl.

I intend to visit Trainers each time I level and train five times (max). Just want to be sure I'm not missing something and messing up my character. I am aware that by leveling skills I don't use at the moment I become somewhat weaker as enemies will level in strength but that's fine. Septims also are not the issue as it's so easy to get them in various ways.

Why would you want to reach max level? It makes you weaker.

I am not sure if this is true, but it seemed if I trained 5 times right in a row I wouldn't get credit for my last 2 skill increases.

There is no difference between whichever method you use to get a skill up in how you level, you still get just as much progress towards the next level from getting the skill via hard work or paying a trainer. However trainers can be pick pocketed making these skills "free", some trainers can be hired as companions, then you don't even need to pick-pocket them. An over-sight perhaps but it's logical people traveling together would share knowledge and not at a price either.

Skill books are just as powerful but are not limited by trainer level, only by the cap which is 100 and of course there is the big book...

Spoiler
Oghma Infinium - this book gives +5 skill to all skills of a single path, again capping at 100. The paths being Magic, Might and Shadow so a maximum possible +35 skills

@So Slick

You're probably just purchasing them too quickly so you are not seeing the increase occur correctly, however you should still be getting the skill for it.

That's what I though too, so I slowed down and watched every increase before I bought the next one, and it still seemed like the last 2 training sessions didn't go towards my overall level. IDK, I'd have to test it some more to be sure.

Ok thanks, I'll go with Trainers then.

I don't want to pickpocket Trainers though, as I see it as exploit and I'm not a thief character. If I was a thief character pickpocketing once would seem ok, but continually doing it would break immersion. I'd rather just use console then to add gold, easier and faster.
