To read reviews or not?

Post » Mon Dec 07, 2015 8:30 pm

I've somehow managed to bury my head in the sand and avoid all the hype and speculation for this game. Now release is so close I'm wondering if I should not even bother looking at reviews and go into the game not knowing anything at all.

Can't remember the last AAA game I played where I started off knowing nothing other than what was in the trailers.

On the other hand I like discussing the game with the online community and finding out about things I might otherwise not have known on my own.

If you have preordered the game there is no point to read reviews all you are going to get are spoilers. If you are unsure if you wanna buy it, then go ahead.

I'd ignore the reviews & just play the game, make your own review.

just play the game, you can always read reviews afterwards to pick up on what you've missed. you'll never get the chance to experience the game with fresh eyes again so don't spoil it!

I won't read the reviews, but I may open up a couple and zip down to the end to see the score on a couple.

Just did that with God is a Geek review. Literally read the last couple of paragraphs alongside the score.

I'm reading reviews slowly and carefully.. . If they start a sentence with "The game starts with." I stop reading. That's usually code for. I'm going to tell you the plot now!

It's a great game, say the reviews.

Not perfect, very Bethesda, huge time sink.

Average around 9/10

I'm not reading them until later but it put a smile on my face to read the headlines. :) Less than a day now is all I keep hearing in my head. It'll be fun to just go into the world knowing almost nothing.,,,see you all in Boston. :)

Just checked the score of a review made by GameStar. It was what I expected it to be. But I didn′t read the whole thing.

I'm looking at scores but I'm not watching any videos yet. Looks like its a big hit, I just don't want to know why until I play it myself.

This is my position too. I've been on the hype train for months, and I'm not gonna let some [censored] reviewer ruin it for me now.

Thanks for the summary.

Still avoiding the reviews, today will be fine but it's tomorrow at work when I'll be suffering and the need for info will be highest. 24 hours until I can realistically get any game time.

That's what i do most of the time mainly focusing on the brief pros and cons section. Still most of the reviews i have read have been spoiler free and always warn when there are heavy spoilers in the article.

Whatever you do, do not scroll down to the comments section, there will be spoilers.

I read the reviews, but it's sort of pointless. Most of them come from people who aren't fallout fans first. The few reviews I've read from fans of the previous games (like going back to 1 and 2) have been quite glowing about it.

The only review worth reading is the one from the fan boy at Ars Technica.

The only time I read game reviews is if I've never heard of a game/series before.

I've played Bethesda's games since 2003, I know I'm going to enjoy it. So, really no point in reading a review.

I watched the video review at Gamespot and there was just a few words at the end of a sentence that made for a pretty decent sized spoiler, some would say huge. You can tell he just spoke without realizing, but anyway, yeah it happens even when the reviewer tries to avoid it.
