Reading about the first 3 DLC's Horse Armro DLC's returning?

Post » Wed Feb 17, 2016 3:00 pm

Just out of curiosity, does anyone else feel the Horse Armor type DLC's are returning with these first 3 DLC's announcement by Bethesda Game Studios?

I was waiting to read about expansion packs to get sold for Fallout 4 not DLC's that add more mods to modify now robots or to just tame NPC's to battle in a arena type or even your own settlers, and the harbor quest.

I guess that's what happens with Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda game Studios selling a Season Pass?

I'm very disappointed.

I have to correct my self on the Far Harbor DLC. It seems like it's a expansion pack it says a large landmass will be there for your Player Characters (PC's) to explore.

Far Harbor is the largest landmass they've created for a DLC yet you still compare it to Horse Armor? Can we wait until we actually get our hands on the DLC before we crucify them?

Just this once?

Yeah I didn't catch the landmass part I re-read it and saw it. I corrected it.

Dunno it seems to me that they've been reviewing these forums. How many threads have asked for customizable robots? How many have asked for NPC fights and bets on those fights? How many have asked for underwater content to take advantage of the coastline?

I really hope the latter is an extension of the current map, rather than a new map entirely. I don't know the US geography so I don't know if Maine is too far to be included on the current map. That being said the 'Synths vs Children of Atom' sounds exciting!

No I see what the OP means. It's not the announced DLC but more what it could indicate. So for instance, the Automatron DLC adds a system to build your own Robotic Companions.

The issue with Horse Armor was that it was a useless, aesthetic addition that they wanted $$ for. It felt like a cash grab.

I could see Bethesda going that way with add-ons and other minor items as micro-transaction level DLC. But I don't think they're going there. They got bit hard by the fan reaction to the Horse Armor and since then we really haven't gotten any DLC that came that close. If you look at the 5 DLC packs released for Fallout 3, they were all big items that added new zones, quests, items, and enemies. The closest we get to Horse Armor would be New Vegas' Courier's Stash and the Gun Runners' Arsenal. However, that was Obsidian, not Bethesda (and one of the few criticisms I have about that game).

They are reviewing the forums for feedback.

They said months ago that the expansion packs and DLC's will be based on community feedback.

I know they did, but how often has it been said by some developer that they are looking to the community, only to release something no one wanted. Nice to see Bethesda sticking to their guns here.

Automatron - a new adventure (perfect time to return to your Silver Shroud persona) plus a new cool feature that adds even more customization to the game

Wasteland Workshop - they are adding more stuff to a popular feature? OMG...

Far Shore - the first expansion with a big new landmass, high difficulty and even more grim choices

NONE of these are Horse Armor level.

I'm referring to a more microtransactions level or so.

The Automatron DLC and Wasteland Workshop DLC I feel should of been added for free in a patch and only Far Harbor should be sold since they say it's the biggest add-on content that they have ever developed. Which makes me think it will be bigger than the Shivering Isles expansion pack for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

I don't see the comparison to horse armor at all. Increased features for the companion mechanic, what looks to be a battle arena dlc of sorts with increased settlement customization, and a large exploration DLC.

All seems legit to me.

I'd say that depends on how much those 2 add to the game.

If Automatron adds quests, items, new monsters, and a decently complex system to build a robot (it promises hundreds of parts to use) then it'll probably be worth the $10 price tag

The Wasteland Workshop comes a bit closer at first glance, to risking that level of DLC though. At $5, it's promising to add cages and the ability to trap/tame monsters and NPCs along with the commands to make them fight. But it does also promise new decoration items for settlements like lighting. I'm kind of interested in the taxidermy concept and trophies, and what the heck the letter kits are supposed to do.

Wasteland Workshop actually reminds me less of the Horse Armor though and more of the Sims 3 DLC packs. Sims DLC was always iffy, but they did occasionally release cheap packs of a few dozen items. However, in comparison, the Fallout 4 DLC seems better value for money.

Not being an entitled modern human, I find the price to be fair and content to be exciting.

At worst

The first adds a sentry bot companion, which is awesome with no other real ideas, also, AN ARMY of robots is attacking, so there are almost certainly quests and big battles to fight.

The second adds tamed beasts, and the ability to build awesome deathmatches, sure that is cosmetic, but it is interesting and functional,

And an entire island to explore, gee

horse armor was pointless, it did nothing for you, so don't even begin comparing these packs to it.

I only agree with Far Harbor being sold, the rest should of been added for free in patches.

Microtransactions are when you buy guns, belts, rings and other BS.

Automatron is a brand new adventure plus a new robot companion + ability to modify that robot. This sure as hell should NOT be free.

Wasteland Workshop expands the Workshop feature with several new features (not only the arenas). If the quantity new material is enough, it would be worth around 5$. And it sells for 5$. Most of us who like the Workshop feature would prefer a large update to be bought than a little update for free

There is no freakin' reason to give either of these two for free because they add enough material to be sold. Nothing but the most minor additions should be free.

Haha no. I think bethesda has learned their lesson with the horse armor dlc. Seeing how even to this day people keep bringing it up.

Honestly, who cares? it all looks like good content and i am happy with the price.

Seriously, quit whining.

I am doing game development in college and it is actually sickening to see how many people think they are so entitled to complain about things that have not even been released, wait until something comes out before you start complaining.

Eh, the Wasteland Workship thing may be small, but it still seems vastly more than "horse armor". Or did you consider Hearthfire to be a "horse armor"-level DLC?

Uh no, these all add alot of content, maybe not the content people want, but still content. The Horse Armor was one thing. Ballowers are you ever going to play the game, or just continue to cause controversy?

You all realize that for f3 and nv there were gun and armor pre-order bonuses that were added as DLC later right?

I didnt see anyone screaming "HORSE ARMOR1Q11ONE11" about those. .......aaaand we still got some huge DLC.

Stop with the horse armor comparisons (Which ironically many here were too young to even play).

And about microtransactions. From where I'm standing with my receipt for season pass, this stuff is free. So, don't tell me about microtransactions. You all still have time to essentially get these smaller DLC for free. If you could only get them a la carte and more DLC weren't planned, you may have some ground to stand. But they aren't and you don't.

Consider this: everybody who plans to buy content DLC as soon as they're released should buy a season pass. It's a no-brainer. It's currently only $5 more than the price of Far Harbor - that means you pay for Far Harbor and get all other future major and minor add-ons for the ridiculously low price of $5. It's a good deal.

It might not be so good if we never see a complete edition of Fallout 4, as it sometimes happens with season pass games (DLC pass remains a separate purchase). We'll see. But right now Bethesda is being quite generous.

True, also more DLC will be added later this year. So now we have something, and buying the season pass is a no brainer, even for me. I am happy, weee!
